100 Little Knitted Gifts to Make | Search Press Studio | Review
I’m starting a new series of reviews that will run a couple of times a month, where I feature some of my favorite crafting books. Some are relatively new, and many are a bit older but still useful. These books may be how-to guides, pattern books, inspirational books, and more. Most of the time I’ll grab one off my shelf of faves and write a quick review. I’ll let you judge if it intrigues you enough to become a favorite of yours.
Today I’m featuring 100 Little Knitted Gifts to Make. This is a great book when you need a fast gift project or something small to give you the satisfaction of completing a project quickly. If you are a knitter, you are sure to fall in love with several of these patterns. If you don’t knit, you should consider learning. It’s proven to have a calming effect on you. Who doesn’t need more of that?

Knitting continues to be a very popular craft, and this book has a very wide appeal both to beginners and more accomplished knitters. This book represents amazing value, comprising 100 projects from some of our best-selling knitting authors. The book covers a wide variety of themes from Christmas knits, baby bootees, phone covers, mug hugs, headbands, and scarves, so there is something for everyone to enjoy. Knitting requires very little in the way of tools and materials, which are widely available from major yarn stores and are relatively inexpensive.
The techniques used in this book are simple enough for experienced beginners to master and easy for more seasoned knitters. Special stitches used are explained in detail, and yarns are described in generic terms so that readers can use what is available to them, wherever they live. The projects are satisfying to make and can be made as gifts for special occasions and celebrations to family and friends.

My thoughts on 100 Little Knitted Gifts to Make:
100 Little Knitted Gifts is impressive. The book is beautiful, with large glossy pages. The pictures are in vibrant colors. Each pattern has a highlighted section listing the materials, needles, and notions you need to complete the project. All dimensions are stated in US customary units and metric measurements. A knitting notes section gives you the abbreviations used in that pattern, as well as the directions to work that technique. All the instructions are clear and concise, making the patterns easy to follow. The pattern authors and designer even graciously let you know if knitting a gauge swatch is necessary. That is important to some knitters.
Instead of your typical contents list at the beginning of the book, eight full pages display a thumbnail image of the project, along with the name and page number. A thoughtfully written introduction to the book follows the index, and the ever-helpful Knitting Know-How section is next. The Know-How pages explain differences in yarn weights, knitting needles, tension, notions, and a fantastic chart of abbreviations.
The projects cover a wide variety of items such as tea cozies, small knitted food, baby booties, hats, teddy bears, scarves, boot toppers, mug hugs, and the list goes son.
100 Little Knitted Gifts has a well-earned spot on my favorites shelf. What is on your shelf?
