My thoughts on The Bootlegger’s Daughter by Nancy Fraser

Book 3 of Ghosts of New England: Skullery Bay

The Bootlegger’s Daughter combines a bit of historical fiction with a lot of simmering romance.

Mallory is such a likable main character. She’s sassy, intelligent, and caring. Her father is arrogant and over-bearing, as well as a criminal with no regard for his daughter. Harry presents himself as a thug, but he is kind and protective of Mallory while he is guarding her.

The many other minor players add a depth to the story with their love and care of Mallory. Whether it’s her best friends who steal her away, the household staff looking out for her, or even the miscreants hired to confine Mallory to the property. They all add touches of empathy and humor to the tale.

Last, but not least are the resident ghosts, Lady Lillian and her beloved Captain. Their love carries on through the generations. I hope they get the resolution they deserve in the last book of the anthology.

The story invokes the true feel of the 1920s from speakeasies to homes to care for veterans, you’ll be transported back in time to relive the tale of unrequited love, greed before family, and finding happiness where you least expect it.

I may only be reviewing the third book in the anthology, but I can’t wait to read the other three. If they are anything like The Bootlegger’s Daughter, it will be more rave reviews.

I received a copy of the book for the tour. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.

  1. Thank you for the review and chance to win.
Like the book cover(s), excerpts. title(s).
What made you want to be a writer and why?
Why did you choose this genre(s) to write in and why?

    • Nancy Fraser

I began writing on a dare because I foolishly told a friend “anyone can write one of the these” (meaning romance books). Boy was I wrong, but WOW what an adventure. And, even after 25 years of publishing, it’s new every time. This particular cross-genre/cross-time period idea came to me when I realized I wanted something “different” from the normal anthology. Thankfully, I had two great writing partners who helped me bring Skullery Bay and the beautiful mansion of Fairwinds to life.

  2. Thank you for hosting our amazing Nancy Fraser today! The Bootlegger’s Daughter is a FANTASTIC book. I LOVE the 1920’s setting as well. Such a fun writing project for us all. Hope your readers enjoy this one-of-a-kind romance anthology!

  3. Thank you so much for sharing our anthology today and for your review of my story, The Bootlegger’s Daughter. Indeed, the other three are just as entertaining. Lisa’s pirate is to die-for, Kathryn’s sexy solicitor the perfect hero, and well … let’s just say my second book has a nerdy, but sexy, professor. I look forward to your comments on the other three books when you’re ready!

  4. Wonderful to be here today! Thank you for the super review, and for featuring Nancy on your post! We do hope you’ll read the other books in the anthology. You won’t be disappointed!! Thanks again!
