Excerpt from Low Sodium Cooking From the Heart
It is quite shocking to be given the news that you have hepatitis C and cirrhosis of the liver. Yes, you know you have not been feeling up to snuff lately: tired, lethargic, not sleeping well and your stomach has been a little off but nothing you feel you should really go and bother your doctor about. Doesn’t everyone go through these stages once in a while?
Then all of a sudden your belly swells and there is a war going on in there and off to Emergency you go. Next comes the diagnosis of hepatitis C and cirrhosis.
After that, all chaos breaks out in your body. For those that also suffer from this and are wondering what symptoms other people have, the following are some of mine:
Inability to think
Pain in muscles, joints, and bones
Dizziness and poor balance
Reduced vision
Hair loss
Terrible skin and nails
Itchy skin and stinging red spots
Muscle cramps and twitching
Restless legs
Shaky
Weight loss
Not sleeping
Extreme tiredness
No energy
Cold
Inflammation especially in the pelvic area at night
Upset and very noisy stomach (Oh the agony sometimes, sharp pains, dull ache, etc.)
Nausea and vomiting
Fluid retention and swelling
Memory loss – forget people, places, and things.
The whole world revolving when you lay flat in bed – holding on so you don’t fall off.

There have been some humorous moments over the years in my kitchen. I spent twenty-six years cooking and baking with my Macaw (bird) Oskar. She was the boss of the kitchen. Whenever a favourite song came on we would have to stop cooking and dance. She was always such fun.
My new bird a Parrotlet Bobbi Blue is only five inches long and weighs one ounce. He loves appliances…including watching the food going round and round in the food processor. The noise does not seem to fizz on him…haha.
One day my Grandson Carter was making Chilled Strawberry Soup. He had the blender going blending strawberries when the lid popped off spewing strawberry puree all over the ceiling. It is all in the eyes…if only you could have seen the look in his eyes when it happened and the look in my husband’s eyes when he realized he would have to repaint the ceiling.
When my cookbook was published the first thing my youngest Grandson Weston did was look through it for his favourite recipe. Yep he says page 38 Mac and Cheese with a big smile on his face. Recently he wanted to know why some of his other favourites were not in the book. I told him they were not low sodium and he said I will have to write another cookbook and put those in.
Cooking and baking should always be fun…Happy Cooking!

My thoughts on Low Sodium Cooking From the Heart
I love this cookbook! Rarely do I come across a book promoting healthy recipes that look this delicious.
The ingredients are easy to find. The recipes are straightforward and easy to follow. The author has many tips on reading labels, creating your own oils & seasoning, and ways to up the flavor without using salt.
It’s such a nice touch to include the pictures and the nutritional facts for each recipe. The author divided the recipes into groupings of salads, beef, pork, poultry, sides, desserts, and more. Each recipe is more appealing than the last.
I honestly did not see a dish that I wouldn’t make and serve. Some are incredibly simple, proving that presentation is essential. Others are a bit more complicated, but nothing the average reader can not make with ease.
I highly recommend this cookbook, whether you are looking to lower your sodium intake or not. The recipes all look that delicious!
I received a copy of the book for the tour. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.
