She needed to keep his injured leg dry and clean. After rooting around in her bag, she found an empty plastic bag once filled with snack bars.
Using her knife, she slit the end and pulled it up over his calf then cut a piece of her shirt off and into strips. She tied the bag snugly into place around the dressing. She had only one roll of gauze left and hoped he wouldn’t need more than that before they found help.
Shade opened his eyes but didn’t appear fully awake. He looked up at her. “You’re my angel, ya know that?”
“You’re delirious,” she countered with a smile. “Rest. I’ll watch over you.”
“I heard thunder,” he mumbled groggily.
“A little.” She cradled his head in her arms while sitting on the ground, sheltering his head from rain with her upper body. She did her best to put on a brave front. “How are you feeling?”
“Tired.”
“Your vital signs are good. You lost some blood but not a dangerous amount. We’ll have to lay low to control the bleeding until it clots.”
“Whatever you say, angel eyes,” he smiled an easy smile, clearly feeling no pain, which brought her relief.
The way he gazed up at her invoked feelings she’d never felt for anyone. His smoldering gaze, the inky black strands of wet hair tossed carelessly over the most handsome face ever, captured her heart.
“Wanna make love?” he purred in a softly sensual way that stirred an ache down below.
“You are delirious,” she teased with a wink. “I’d accept your offer in a heartbeat if not for your injury.”
A leisurely grin tugged the corners of his sexy lips. “I bet you say that to all your patients.”
“Only the really hot ones.” She caressed his cheek, admiring the perfect bone structure of his face.
He smiled again as his eyes closed. “Glad I made the list…” His voice trailed off. Within seconds he’d drifted back to sleep.

My Thoughts on Chained Reaction

I think some of the things that intrigued me about this book were the title, cover and excerpt it makes me want to read in print format.
