With only three weeks left in December, travel editor, America Greene, arrives in the idyllic Christmas Cove to find it... Christmasless!

America needs a story, and fast, so she teams up with the town’s good-looking (and eligible) mayor, Leo, to light up Main Street and salvage her chance at being a full-time writer. The connection between them heats up, halls are decked, sleigh bells ring, and lights twinkle.

Just when she thinks the holiday is saved, a nearby city threatens the future of Christmas Cove. With her heart, and career, hanging in the balance, she must learn that Christmas is much more than just a place on a map before time runs out.

Excerpt from Christmas Cove

Leo watched as America’s eyes lit up. The space was a winter wonderland, complete with dozens of flocked and lit trees. Soft glowing faux candles dotted the room, a live band played at one end, and there was more punch and hot cocoa than one could drink.

“This is beautiful,” America said as she took in the atmosphere.

“You’re beautiful,” he whispered. Though he couldn’t see if she heard him, her shoulder moved ever so slightly as though she did. “Is this the Christmas you were hoping for?”

“Close,” she said and took a turn around him while delighting in the moment.

America looked like the queen of the ball as they walked to the center of the space, and pride swelled inside Leo that she was on his arm. The crowd hushed and, as though they were witnessing something special, cleared room on the dancefloor.

Though they didn’t know who she was, her confident and relaxed posture commanded attention from everyone in the room. She sent Leo a knowing side glance as he twirled her around before catching her in his arm.

He took her left hand in his and her waist in his right. The room stood still in the breath just before the music began. A Christmas waltz. Leo knew this one well. He took her through the steps, and she followed his lead like a pro.

As the music swelled and diminished to a close, he captured her gaze. She radiated happiness.

“Where did you learn to dance like that?” America said breathlessly.

“YouTube.”

America whacked him in the belly as she laughed. “You did not!”

He liked teasing her. “Of course, I didn’t. My Aunt June insisted on weekly cotillion classes.”

“You surprise me.”

“I try,” Leo said and held her close.

Her arms draped over his shoulders and her head rested near his neck. “Thank you,” she whispered. “This is exactly what I imagined before I came here.”

“You imagined dancing with a dashing, yet approachable public servant in a snow-themed pavilion with a hundred eyes trained on you while your favorite song is played by a live band, while wearing a stunning gown and falling madly in—”

My thoughts on Christmas Cove

“Christmas Cove” by Sarah Dressler is a heartwarming holiday romance that beautifully captures the essence of small-town life. As travel editor America Greene steps into the idyllic Christmas Cove, she is met with the unexpected challenge of a seemingly Christmasless town, just three weeks shy of December’s end. Determined to salvage her chance at becoming a full-time writer, America teams up with the town’s eligible mayor, Leo, in a quest to light up Main Street. Their collaboration not only sparks a connection between them but also sets the stage for a delightful journey into the heart of Christmas.

The narrative unfolds as America and Leo deck the halls, ring sleigh bells, and illuminate the town with festive lights. Yet, just when it seems the holiday is saved, a nearby city threatens the future of Christmas Cove. This twist adds a layer of suspense, with America’s heart and career hanging in the balance. The story becomes a poignant exploration of more than just saving Christmas—it becomes a lesson in making one’s own destiny and discovering joy in unexpected places.

Dressler’s writing is characterized by uplifting and touching moments that resonate with readers. The narrative goes beyond the surface of a holiday romance, offering a deeper reflection on community, the true spirit of Christmas, and the importance of finding joy where you are. The vivid descriptions of Christmas Cove transport readers into the heart of the small town, while the charming characters add a layer of authenticity and warmth to the overall experience. “Christmas Cove” is a must-read for those seeking a festive and heartwarming escape that lingers well after the final page.

Summary

“Christmas Cove” is not just a romance novel set during the holiday season; it is a multi-layered story that explores the transformative power of Christmas, the resilience of small-town life, and the ability to shape one’s destiny amid unexpected challenges. Dressler’s skillful storytelling and the enchanting world of Christmas Cove make this novel a delightful and memorable addition to the holiday reading list.

I received a copy of the book for the tour. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.

Guest Post

Three things every new writer needs to know.

When I began my writing career, I mistakenly believed that asking for help, or getting advice meant I was failing, or incapable of doing it by myself. Oh, how wrong I was! As I reflect on the past five years of my writing career, and look excitedly at the release of my debut novel, Christmas Cove, I find it more important than ever to give back to the community that has been so gracious and supportive. There are three things that might be helpful to new, or struggling writers. Things that I wish I would have known, or been less prideful about utilizing, from the start.

Have a plan.

This doesn’t have to be too fancy or include an elaborate storyboard with every single scene mapped out to within an inch of its life, though it can be if that’s what works for you. It can also be anything from some notes jotted down on scrap paper to a simple outline that includes the major plot points like the beginning, the middle, and the end. You’ll want to include the main character’s personal growth arc, or you’ll have to go back and figure it out later anyway, so save yourself from future trouble.

Be consistent.

The worst piece of advice I see thrown around like candy that will heal all your writing ailments is that a writer should write every day. The reality of life is that you probably can’t meet that bar no matter how hard you try and will only cause yourself to feel angry or guilty when you don’t.

Give yourself grace, but be consistent with your goals.

While drafting a story, I don’t want to lose momentum, so I set time aside each day to sit down and work on my book. This doesn’t mean I’m writing every day. I have a list of other things I can do, especially when the words aren’t flowing. I connect with other writers, do research, and make social media posts to promote my project. Being an author is demanding work, and being consistent will help you to move forward with your writing career each day.

Decide where you stand with an Oxford Comma.

Love it or hate it, readers like an oxford comma. When listing items, each one should have a comma between, as in, “I ate bread, olive oil, and cheese for dinner” not “I ate bread, olive oil and cheese for dinner”. Did you read the difference? Both ways are correct, so whichever you choose, just stick with it. This will save you much time during the editing phase.

Most importantly, know that you can do it. It won’t be easy–cue the support team–but it will be worth it when you hold the finished book in your hands for the first time.
