My thoughts on Terra Electrica
Terra Electrica: The Guardians of the North by Antonia Maxwell is an epic, heart-pounding adventure set in a totally transformed Arctic. With the last ice caps melted, what’s left is a world on the edge. A dangerous new force—Terra Electrica—emerges out of this disaster that feeds on electricity, wrecking everything in its path. It’s relentless, spreading destruction and showing how deeply humanity’s choices can backfire.
Our main character, Mani, is just 12, and she’s already lost her family and her home to this force. Suddenly, she’s got a powerful ancient wooden mask in her hands—a mask she was never supposed to inherit at this age. But with no one else left, it’s up to Mani to find the courage and wisdom to make sense of her new powers and protect what’s left of the world. Her journey to understand her abilities is as much about finding her inner strength as it is fighting this terrifying enemy.
Maxwell’s vision of a post-melt world is haunting and electric, while Mani’s story is as heartfelt as it is intense. You’ll feel her courage, her uncertainty, and the weight of what she’s carrying—a reminder of the resilience young people need in a world turned upside down. Mani’s journey shows that hope and grit make a difference even in the darkest times. Sometimes, a single spark of bravery is all it takes to light the way forward.
I received a copy of the book for the tour. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.
