My thoughts on Foster’s Leash
Foster’s Leash by Sarah Sommer is one of those picture books that sneaks up on you—in the best way. It’s a sweet, emotional story about a young girl who fosters a dog named Pepper and the bond they build through everyday moments like walks and playtime.
The leash that Pepper wears says “ADOPT ME,” and that simple line of text packs a big punch. It opens up feelings of joy, nervousness, and sadness and helps kids (and adults) understand what it really means to love and let go.
The illustrations are bright and expressive, and there’s even a helpful section about the fostering process at the end. It’s an excellent pick for families considering fostering or just wanting to discuss empathy and caring for others.
Warm, honest, and full of heart best describe this important children’s book. Foster’s Leash is definitely one I’d recommend to families considering entering the pet fostering life.
I received a copy of the book for the tour. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.

I also live in the country, I moved here in January. There are several feral cat colonies in the woods behind my house. . I am heading into Dire Straits with all these cats. I have 10 of my own. If you know of anyone who can donate cat food to help me feed these cats. Here’s my wish list. I am just asking for cat food. Spread the word if you can

Fostering takes a certain ability to both love and let go. However, in my family (we live in the country and our ‘rescues’ are usually animals who have been dumped!), they almost always bond with at least one family member and letting go is often not a real possibility when dealing with children.
I live on a farm too. It’s a real issue! Thanks for stopping by!
Adorable book
This sounds like a great book. Both my kids have rescues, but have never fostered an animal. I think this would be a great book for my grandkids.
Sounds like a great book for animal lovers! I love the colourful illustrations.
Thank you for sharing!
You are most welcome! It’s a lovely book. I can’t wait to share it with my littles grandkids.
Aw, what a cute dog.
I just love books with dogs in them, children’s or grown-up books!
My grandkids will like it.
I agree, Rita. Mine too!
