A scandalous mistake…or a wicked way to happiness?

Hoping to compromise herself, Lady Amantha Easton sneaks into the bedroom of her would-be suitor only to find a total stranger there—a totally handsome, charming stranger to be sure—but not at all the man she plans to marry. She leaves his room with her reputation intact—barely—only to fall victim to the gentleman’s charms in a public place. Now Amantha must face the fate she’s tried to avoid—marriage to a man who will never love her.

All Rafael Beauregard wanted was a warm bed and a good night’s sleep…but what he got was an unexpected romp with a beautiful vixen and a fiery kiss that left him wanting more. An excellent trade, except now he’s got to marry Lady Amantha, one of the most willful women he’s ever met. So Rafe’s challenge is to persuade her that marriage to him might be the best thing for them both…once he convinces himself.

Quick Take: A lush Victorian romance filled with scandal, chemistry, and emotional tension, As Long As You're Mine delivers the kind of sweeping historical drama that fans of forced-marriage romances and strong-willed heroines will happily sink into.

Content Considerations

This historical romance includes sensual scenes, forced-marriage themes, reputational peril, controlling family dynamics, emotional manipulation, and period-typical expectations surrounding women and marriage.

Why This Book Stands Out

What makes As Long As You're Mine especially enjoyable is the way Jenna Jaxon balances classic historical romance tropes with genuine emotional vulnerability. The mistaken-identity opening immediately throws Amantha and Rafael into conflict, but beneath the scandal and attraction is a story about agency, trust, and learning to see beyond first impressions.

The historical details also add richness to the novel's atmosphere. Real locations, ships, and Victorian-era settings help ground the romance in a vivid world that feels immersive without overwhelming the story itself.

With that in mind, let's take a closer look.

My Thoughts

As Long As You're Mine was such a fun historical romance to settle into. Jenna Jaxon blends scandal, attraction, and emotional tension with plenty of witty banter, giving the story an entertaining energy from the very beginning. The chemistry between Amantha and Rafe works especially well because their personalities constantly clash in ways that feel playful as often as romantic.

Amantha is wonderfully headstrong for her era, and I appreciated that she never completely loses her sense of independence even when circumstances push her into difficult choices. Rafe, meanwhile, brings a charming outsider energy to Victorian England. His American perspective adds warmth and humor to the story, and his patience with Amantha often made him impossible not to like.

The secondary characters also help bring the world to life, adding personality and momentum without pulling attention away from the central romance. Combined with the vivid historical details and steady pacing, the novel keeps moving comfortably while still giving readers time to enjoy the emotional development between the characters.

Fans of classic historical romance tropes will find plenty to enjoy here, including forced marriage, misunderstandings, scandal, emotional twists, and a mildly spicy romance that fits naturally within the story's tone. Altogether, this was an engaging and emotionally satisfying read that earned a solid 8.0 on my CAWPILE scale.

In Conclusion

As Long As You're Mine delivers exactly the kind of entertaining historical romance many readers look for: sparkling banter, emotional tension, memorable supporting characters, and a romance built on equal parts frustration and attraction. Jenna Jaxon balances the scandal and misunderstandings with genuine warmth, giving Amantha and Rafe enough emotional depth to make their relationship feel satisfying beyond the tropes themselves.

Readers who enjoy strong heroines, forced-marriage complications, Victorian-era settings, and lightly spicy romance will likely find this an easy book to sink into. The steady pacing and immersive historical details make it especially enjoyable for fans of classic historical romance with a slightly modern emotional sensibility.

If you've enjoyed Jenna Jaxon's work before, especially my review of The Widow Wore Plaid, you'll probably appreciate the same blend of romantic tension, engaging characters, and richly detailed historical atmosphere found here as well.

Excerpt

To give you a feel for the story, here's a brief excerpt:

Excerpt from As Long As You're Mine by Jenna Jaxon:

She had time for a single, high-pitched squawk then his mouth was on hers again. And because her lips were still open from her shriek, the wretched Mr. Beauregard took full advantage.

He delved into the depths of her mouth, his tongue chasing hers until she had to fight back in kind, stroking his tongue until he groaned. Somehow that sound satisfied her immensely.

Abruptly, he released her, the suction of their lips making a rude smacking noise.

"Oh, you, you cad." Amantha drew her arm back for another strike but he caught it nimbly in one hand.

"Once was quite enough for that sort of mischief, my lady," he laughed, then released her.

"I could say the same thing about your kisses, Mr. Beauregard." Amantha tried to meet his eyes but couldn't quite manage it.

"If you really thought so you shouldn't have encouraged me during the first one." He grinned at her furrowed brow.

"I did no such thing!" Her exasperated huff ruffled the hair on his forehead.

"I regret to disagree, but you most certainly did. And there's no reason we can't indulge in a little dalliance with a clear conscience now. We blew the barn door off the hinges last night, so to speak. That horse isn't coming back."

"I don't intend to indulge in anything with you, Mr. Beauregard."

"Anything else, you mean?" His mouth puckered in a smug smile. "We seem to have been indulging in quite a lot already."

Jenna Jaxon is a best-selling author of historical romance, writing in a variety of time periods because she believes that passion is timeless. She has been reading and writing historical romance since she was a teenager. A romantic herself, Jenna has always loved a dark side to the genre, a twist, suspense, a surprise. She tries to incorporate all these elements into her own stories.

She lives in Virginia with her family and a small menagerie of pets--including Olive, an almost silent cat, Earl Grey, a very curious bunny, and a Shar-pei mix dog named Frenchie.

Guest Post from Jenna Jaxon

Jenna Jaxon shares some of the fascinating historical research and real-world locations that helped shape the world of As Long As You're Mine.

As an historical author I always try to incorporate as much detail from the time period as possible using actual locations, artifacts, and period-correct terminology. Some authors choose fictional towns or villages, and I have done that on occasion, however I love research and try to include historically accurate details documented during the period.

With As Long As You're Mine, I filled the novel with references to real locations, buildings, houses, and ships that existed during 1892, the year the story is set.

The first of these is Agecroft Hall, the property Rafael and Amantha visit for his work. The manor house originally stood in Lancashire, England until a millionaire purchased it, dismantled it, and transported it to Richmond, Virginia, where it now serves as a museum and cultural center. In the novel, a wealthy gentleman wants to build a replica of Agecroft, so Rafael's firm sends him to the original estate to obtain the architectural plans. My own idea is that the gentleman eventually decided simply to buy the house and relocate it to Virginia.

Rafael's home in Richmond's Oregon Hill district is also based on a real structure. It appears exactly as described in the novel - two mirrored houses standing side by side. The home actually belongs to one of my husband's longtime friends, and after visiting it myself, I became captivated by its charm and knew it needed to appear in one of my books.

The steamship S.S. Lucania was another real historical detail included in the novel. I spent hours studying websites filled with photographs and descriptions of the ship's luxurious accommodations, which helped me vividly recreate the staterooms, dining rooms, and promenade decks. Even the "horse races" mentioned in the story were actual activities passengers enjoyed aboard some steamships of the era.

Finally, both The Ballard and The Exchange - the hotels where the climax of the novel takes place - were real Richmond hotels operating in 1892. Once again, historical photographs helped me bring these locations to life. I hope readers enjoy traveling back to the vivid and romantic world of Victorian England and Virginia in As Long As You're Mine.
