Lori Crawford's world is turned upside down when her husband dies in a car accident. After twenty-five years of marriage, she thought she would forever live an uncomplicated, happy life with Jack. But just as Lori feels she’s coming out on the other side of her grief, Jack’s assistant at SpringWare, Rita Johnson, discovers information that convinces her that Jack was murdered.

The two women vow to bring the perpetrator to justice. But time is running out, and their names are on someone’s kill list. The truth takes them down a path they never could have suspected. They set out to bring down one of the most powerful men in the country: the director of the National Security Agency.

But who will believe them? And how many more will die before they do?

Now, they have to decide if they have the courage—and the ability—to finish what they started.

About Roberta K. Fernandez

Roberta K. Fernandez Author image

In her sixty-three years of life, Roberta K. Fernandez, a board-certified hypnotist, didn’t know that she had a story waiting to be told.

In 2006, she attended a weeklong memoir-writing class conducted by a bestselling author, Joyce Maynard. Joyce worked hard to bring out Roberta’s best work, in spite of her self-perceived lack of talent. While it was an awesome experience to be instructed by a well-known author, Roberta determined that writing about herself was not a talent she possessed.

As a first-time author, Roberta now understands she was simply destined to write in a different genre. She enjoys creating relatable characters and watching the story unfold as she types. Like her readers, she wonders what’s going to happen next. A sequel is already being written as this book is published. Who knows what words will flow across the page in the next fifteen years!

My Subconscious Writing Process by Roberta K. Fernandez

I’m often asked what my writing process is. (FYI, I talk about my editing process in a blog on another tour stop.) By other’s standards, I suppose you would call my style non-traditional or unconventional.

I do not write as my primary source of income, but it would be a welcome supplement for my retirement one day. I have a full-time career, so I don’t sit at a desk and make myself write from nine to five. Though I must say, if writing were my primary source of income, I wouldn’t do that anyway. That being said, my career is why I write the way I write.

I’m a board-certified hypnotist who sees clients every day. I practice daily self-hypnosis for problem-solving, introspection, and inspiration. Throughout the week, I block off inspirational time to write or be creative in some other way. (And occasionally, to do nothing.)

Setting traditional goals and establishing metrics or following the rules that “they” have set has never been a comfortable fit. Forcing myself to be creative is counterproductive. Those words never belong in the same sentence! That’s taking action, but that action isn’t inspired. It’s like vacuuming your entire house without plugging in the vacuum. Yes, you covered every square inch, but it’s still dirty.

I’m not advocating sitting around all day twiddling your thumbs. Action is what enables the manifestation of what you want. But I know that when you are inspired to do something, you are much more productive and achieve more satisfying outcomes.

When I’m inspired, I write as a woman possessed. The ideas and words flow with seemingly little effort. If thoughts come when I’m not in front of my laptop, I make a note, trusting my subconscious mind to fill in the details when I am.

After ten years of studying and working with the subconscious mind, I am entirely certain, and perhaps it’s the only thing I know for sure, that the subconscious mind holds all the answers. It is your source of creativity, home to your imagination, and it never forgets anything you’ve learned or experienced. It’s the library of your mind, and I seem to check out a different book every time I go there!
