A Shifting of Stars by Kathy Kimbray is a fictional fantasy novel. It’s book one of a new series by Kimbray titled “Of Stars”. This story is labeled Young Adult fiction; however, I’m far from young and absolutely adored the book. A great storyline and excellent craftmanship don’t need a label; they simply need readers. I hope you won’t skip A Shifting of Stars as it’s in the running for my favorite novel of 2020. Read on for more information about this new entry in the fantasy world, as well as an author biography, and purchase links.

But doing so comes at a steep cost. Arrested as punishment for her impulsive tongue, Meadow finds herself caught up in the kind of danger she's always tried to avoid. After a chance meeting with an enigmatic boy, she's propelled on a perilous trek across the outer lands.
But she soon unearths a staggering secret: one that will shift her world-and the kingdom-forever.

My thoughts on A Shifting of Stars by Kathy Kimbray:
Wow! That’s the only way to start this review.
I read a lot of fantasy books for reviews. I thought perhaps I was getting a little blasé about the genre. A Shifting of Stars blew those thoughts away in a turbulent gust.
Author, Kathy Kimbray has built a fantasy world to compete with many of the big names. Her world-building skills are incredible. This book reads like a movie in your head. She pulls the reader into the action on page one and never lets them go. Her pacing is excellent throughout the book. I didn’t even consider this Young Adult fiction. When the storyline and writing are great, nothing else matters.
The heroine is young and naive, yet grief weighs her down. I felt the portrayal of grief was exceptional throughout the story. The characters are well-developed and fully fleshed out. Motivation, hidden or front and center, is a theme for the characters.
A Shifting of Stars has drama, fear, uprisings, chases, mystery, and magic. It even has a wicked Prince. But, most of all, it has heart. Tears were falling as I neared the end of the book, and that doesn’t often happen in this genre.
The twists and turns add to the pleasure of reading this story. There are some cliffhangers, so I’m anxiously awaiting book two in the series.
