And She Was Never the Same Again is about you. It is about your family and your friends, everyone you've ever met, and all the strangers you have yet to meet.

It takes you on a journey of gains and losses that stretch generations, cultures, identities, and decades of time. It awakens you to the inevitable and makes you look at things most people want to avoid seeing. It explores near-death experiences; medical, individual, and intergenerational trauma; the stigmatized death of a partner; perfectionism; athletics; first loves; and the gaping holes that become permanent fixtures within us when those we love the most die.

You will feel, you will learn, you will grown, and you will never be the same again.

My Thoughts on And She Was Never The Same Again

And She Was Never The Same Again is a powerful memoir that takes the reader on a journey deep into the intimate moments of loss and transformation experienced by Dr. Natasha Pryde Trujillo and her family. This intriguing memoir captures the essence of how personal tragedies, rather than breaking us, can shape the very core of who we are, inspiring readers with the resilience of the human spirit.

Dr. Trujillo skillfully narrates the pain of her own losses, weaving them together with the struggles and heartaches of her ancestors. Her candid storytelling creates a heart-wrenching and deeply relatable emotional tapestry. The memoir has the ability to evoke strong empathy, making it resonate with anyone who has faced the inevitable trials of life.

The work is well-written and thought-provoking. It brought tears to my eyes more than once.

This memoir has a universal appeal. Everyone can relate to the shared experience of loss, and Dr. Trujillo’s raw, unfiltered exploration of her own pain makes the book not just a story but a journey of healing and understanding. And She Was Never The Same Again is a touching reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and how our past shapes our present.

About Natasha Pryde Trujillo

Natasha Pryde Trujillo Ph.D. Author image

Dr. Natasha Pryde Trujillo is a counseling and sports psychologist, consultant, educator, author, and human. Labels don’t make her better or worse-equipped to deal with inevitable grief throughout life.

She’s passionate about the power of storytelling and wants to illustrate nuanced ways we cope with grief. Like you, she’s had losses and decided to risk vulnerability as that may encourage others to redefine relationships with loss to live more holistic and intentional lives. She hopes this limited collection of stories can build the realization that there’s no “right” way to grieve.

Guest Post

How can understanding multigenerational grief help us support our loved ones better during
their times of loss?

When we have more context to better understand why our loved ones are the way they are, it
can serve as a foundation to help us better regulate our own emotions and tolerate the distress
we experience while sitting alongside them during loss. I once heard that it is harder to hate
someone from up close because with more knowledge/awareness comes more understanding,
even if we vehemently disagree. Essentially, it can allow us to respond differently and control
what we can control in a way that is aligned with our own values.

I also believe that understanding others’ grief can help us zoom out a bit and pay attention to pieces of the stories
we may have ignored or avoided because we were too focused on one detail that didn’t give us
the whole story. It can help us better check our assumptions and expectations and generally just
cope more effectively. One of the most vital points I tried to make throughout the book is that the
grief experienced by those who impacted me the most has affected me, too, whether I was
there to see it live or not. Our experiences change us and how we interact with others, and the
cycle continues.

To quote from the book, “There is no end to the losses and gains in the world.
They will continue on – as will the associated grief and gratitude. There is also no such thing as
an individual experience; we are all connected to those who came before us and those who will
follow. We live in story – and the story continues on.”
