Excerpt from Andy Gets Angry
Andy doesn’t like being angry, mad, or frustrated – he hates how it makes him feel. Sometimes
he feels angry in his face. Sometimes he feels angry in his hands. Other times, he feels angry in
his stomach and even in his mind.
Andy later feels bad about some of the things he said or did when he was angry. He felt bad
after he yelled at Bobby, and he felt bad after he slammed the door on Sierra… and he felt bad
after the one time he told his dad that he didn’t like him anymore. And that didn’t just make Andy
angry. It also made him feel sad.

My thoughts on Andy Gets Angry
The author is participating in a children’s book giveaway through February 28, 2022. Get your digital copy of Andy Gets Angry.
Andy Gets Angry was written by Mike Masse, a mindfulness-based stress reduction specialist.
In this book, we learn about Andy’s anger triggers and he learns a special breathing technique to calm himself.
It’s important for all children to realize anger is simply an emotion, just like happiness and sadness. It’s equally important for them to learn how to deal with that anger. It’s normal to get angry when a brother takes your toys, your sister is annoying, or you get frustrated at school. But it’s not acceptable to lash out at anyone in anger.
His parents contact their friend, Mindful Mike, who teaches Andy a helpful trick to calm himself. I must admit while reading the book, I practiced his stress-ball breathing technique and it does work to calm you.
A few great takeaways from the book are:
Everyone gets angry
Learning to control your anger
It’s okay to talk to your parents, teachers, or others about your feelings
Breathing techniques are helpful for all people
Anger and sadness can be related
The illustrations beautifully add to the story. Emily Corbett managed to capture the emotions on Andy’s face and make the reader understand the depth of his feelings.
Andy Gets Angry should be in every home, library, medical office, and daycare. I think more adults could benefit from reading this simple children’s book.
I received a copy of the book for the tour. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.
