After harrowing experiences in the Napoleonic Wars and suffering from what we would now recognise as PTSD, half-English, half-German Lukas is making a home for his mother and sister in the leafy green of England. At least, he is in the country while his sister and mother are in London, falling under the sway of Lady Beatrix, a frivolous socialite who appears to think of nothing but fun and pairing up other people, whether they like it or not.I t turns out she's not very good at match-making, and certainly not at finding her own match. Her thoughtlessness leads her into having accept an offer of marriage from the strict and disapproving Lukas. The world as she knows it seems about to fall apart.
But then there's Juno, Lukas's old hunting dog, who is very good at match-making. She unerringly points everyone in the right direction.
If you've read other Regencies by GL Robinson you will recognise the style: a charming story with a hint of seriousness at its core. If you haven't read her before, this is a good place to start!

My thoughts on Beatrix, the Baron, and his Dog
Beatrix, the Baron, and his Dog may be one of my favorite books in her Regency romance series. Although, I think I say that every time I finish one of them. lol
Beatrix is a headstrong, self-reliant, capable female who bends the “rules” set by Society. She “believes” she’s an extraordinary matchmaker. Orphaned young, she grew up in her Uncle’s bachelor home, where she was loved, indulged, and encouraged in all endeavors.
Lukas, Baron von Schwerin, is battle-weary to the bone and filled with nightmares from his time in the Napoleonic Wars. Raised half-German and half-English, Lukas is a rigid young man who has seen too much in his lifetime.
These personalities are bound to clash, and sparks fly when they do. They are a perfect match when they finally overcome their differences and see each other in an unbiased light.
Taking Lukas’ sister Margarethe under her wing to guide the backward girl into Society seems generous until everything goes wrong. Her matches are not working out as planned, and when Lukas and Beatrix find themselves in a compromising situation, life takes a dramatic turn.
The characters are very well-written, evoking emotions and excitement in the reader. Like many books by G.L. Robinson, the pooch always knows best. Juno, Lukas’ weary old hunting dog, is no exception. She is sometimes the wisest one in the room. The author gives readers a peek at Juno’s thoughts throughout the tale, which adds much humor. Perhaps Juno is the best matchmaker?
The story, written in typical Regency-era prose, is easy to read, the plot moves quickly, and it keeps the reader involved.
I have yet to read a Regency from Robinson that didn’t exceed my expectations. I highly recommend this story to lovers of the era, brilliant dogs, forward-thinking women, and the men who love them.
This is my honest, unbiased opinion of a book I own.
