She was letting go; he could see it in her eyes. Her brown eyes, golden with amber, held the sorrow of the death of something great. She was slipping out of his reach.

He stood from the kitchen chair he sat in and took a step toward her, resting his hands on her waist. She didn’t loosen in his arms, but she didn’t push him away either.
“I won’t give up so easily,” he said with a self-assured smile, the one he knew set her heart to racing. “You want to find your footing? Get a feel for your new claws? All right. But don’t make the mistake of thinking that just because you don’t see me, I’m not there. You’re going to have to do more than that to get rid of me.”
Lowering his face slowly down to hers, giving her enough time to pull away, he kissed her gently on the mouth. “If you want me gone,” he whispered, his lips not an inch from hers. “Then you better make me believe it.”
He felt the tension in her limbs ease, and he smiled at the effect he had on her. She still wants me.

D. Lieber has a wanderlust that would make a butterfly envious. When she isn’t planning her next physical adventure, she’s recklessly jumping from one fictional world to another. Her love of reading led her to earn a Bachelor of Arts in English from Wright State University.
Beyond her skeptical and slightly pessimistic mind, Lieber wants to believe. She has been to many places—from Canada to England, France to Italy, Germany to Russia—believing that a better world comes from putting a face on “other.” She is a romantic idealist at heart, always fighting to keep her feet on the ground and her head in the clouds.
Lieber lives in Wisconsin with her husband (John) and cats (Yin and Nox).
