My thoughts on Boss Bandit (3-Book Set)
The three-book children’s series by Tom W. Smith about Boss Bandit, a Shih Tzu puppy, is an absolutely charming collection of adventures that follows the playful and curious Boss as he navigates various mysteries and challenges.
Book One, Boss Bandit and the Mysterious Hole is about Boss’s discovery of a mysterious hole. He watches and waits, somewhat patiently, to find out what is in the hole. In the end, he gets a big surprise, and so do the readers.
A few of the themes I liked in book one are:
- Curiosity and Exploration: Boss Bandit’s inquisitive nature leads him to discover a mysterious hole, emphasizing the importance of curiosity and the excitement of exploring the unknown.
- Problem-Solving: The story highlights the process of solving a mystery, encouraging critical thinking and persistence.
- Friendship and Teamwork: As Boss Bandit investigates the hole, he relies on friends for assistance, showcasing the value of collaboration.
Book Two is Boss Bandit and the Hungry Woods. When Boss ventures into the woods, he becomes trapped in a cage. What dangers will he face before he is reunited with his human parents?
These themes stood out to me in book two:
- Adventure and Bravery: Boss Bandit ventures into the woods, facing challenges that require courage and resourcefulness.
- Respect for Nature: The narrative includes themes of understanding and respecting the natural world and its inhabitants.
- Helping Others: Boss Bandit’s journey could involve helping creatures he encounters, teaching lessons of compassion and altruism.
Book Three, Boss Bandit and the Christmas Tree Intruder, follows the same theme as the earlier books. This time, Boss is unfairly accused of wreaking havoc on the family’s Christmas tree. How will he prove his innocence?
Helpful themes in book three are:
- Festivity and Celebration: Set during the Christmas season, this book celebrates holiday traditions and the joy of the festive period.
- Kindness and Generosity: The story includes themes of giving and sharing, which are central to the spirit of Christmas.
- Dealing with Unusual Situations: Boss Bandit encounters an intruder, promoting problem-solving and adaptability in unexpected circumstances while proving his innocence.
This set of three children’s books is a delightful addition to any library. It features themes of curiosity, problem-solving, compassion, and many more traits that people try to inspire in children of all ages. One of the most important teaching moments in each story is “not everything is as it seems.”
This set of books would make the perfect gift for any family with young children. It’s also a pretty fun read for older kids and adults. The books provide many opportunities for further discussion on themes that are important to families.
I received copies of the books from the author to review but was certainly not required to rate them favorably. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.
Unless otherwise noted above, books are from my personal library or Kindle Unlimited.
