The latest stand-alone adventure in the cult-favorite series, Jacob Stearne faces the toughest moral dilemma of his career. Haunted by a past riddled with violence, former Army Ranger Jacob Stearne finds himself navigating the treacherous world of corporate espionage for the enigmatic billionaire, Pia Sabel.
When a renowned professor is found murdered, the prime suspect is a powerful Chinese executive, and the motive is a stolen equation capable of shifting global the Chaac Equation. The equation can produce batteries storing ten thousand times the kilowatt hours, powering airplanes, cars, and homes at a fraction of today’s cost. Tasked with recovering the equation, Stearne embarks on a deadly game of cat-and-mouse across continents, matching wits with the formidable Jackie Maura, a ruthless operative from the shadowy Remmo Nidal Corporation.
In this high-stakes game of covert operations—where ethical lines look like sine waves and loyalty is thinner than fog—the President denies Jacob’s existence while his boss pushes him to his limits. Forced to confront the physical and psychological toll of his profession, Stearne must confront his own demons and make choices that will determine the fate of nations and his own redemption.
As the mission’s demands grow, his girlfriend dumps him, his comrades lose faith, and assassins get him in their sights.

My Thoughts on Chasm of Exiles
This is not the first novel I’ve read in the Jacob Stearne – Pia Sable series, so I went into Chasm of Exiles expecting a solid action thriller, but what I got was something much more intense, layered, and honestly, a little bit mind-bending. Seeley James doesn’t just write fast-paced, globe-trotting adventures; he throws you into a world where morality is murky, and every choice feels like it could have world-altering consequences.
Jacob Stearne will keep you on the hook, not just because he’s capable and sharp, but because he’s grappling with his own past while navigating a mission that feels impossible. His goal? Retrieve the Chaac Equation, a discovery that could revolutionize energy storage (or, you know, destroy the balance of power as we know it). No pressure. The stakes are high, the action is relentless, and the bad guys, especially Jackie Maura, are way more than your typical villains. She’s strategic, ruthless, and, at times, dangerously likable.
In this book, we meet Raven Mitchell. Raven is a brilliant scientist who plays a crucial role in developing the Chaac Equation. Her character is portrayed with depth and complexity. And I have to say, I love the name!
One of the things I appreciate most about James’ writing is that he doesn’t just settle for the usual thriller beats. Yes, there are fights, chases, and double-crosses (and they’re fantastic), but beneath all that, the book raises some big questions. Who should have access to world-changing technology? Is it ever okay to hide the truth for the “greater good”? It’s the kind of story that kept popping up in my head for days after I finished reading it.
If you’re into books that blend espionage, high-stakes action, and moral dilemmas, Chasm of Exiles delivers in spades. I can certainly recommend it to fans of scientific espionage, unreliable narrators, and fabulous thrillers.
I sometimes receive digital books from the author, publisher, or a tour company.

This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.
