My thoughts on Clytemnestra’s Bind
Clytemnestra’s Bind” presents a new, feminist perspective on the ancient Greek myth. In Wilson’s retelling, Clytemnestra is portrayed as a multi-dimensional character with her own agenda and motivations.
Power, betrayal, revenge, and the consequences of one’s actions are themes that recur throughout the story.
We learn about Clytemnestra’s life, from her early days as a princess, her marriage to Agamemnon, and the events leading up to his murder. The author gives us a glimpse into Clytemnestra’s psyche, providing insight into the poor woman’s feelings of anger, resentment, and, ultimately, her desire for justice. The loss of her daughter and the murder of her first husband play a large part in shaping why she chooses the actions she does. What path would you choose?
The novel also examines Clytemnestra’s relationships, particularly with her husband, Agamemnon, and lover, Aegisthus. Wilson explores the complexities of these relationships and their impact on Clytemnestra’s decisions so subtly that the reader soon begins to ponder deeper questions about the myths we learned long ago.
When I agreed to review this book, I was afraid it would be a simple retelling of a classic Greek tale. However, this entertaining and riveting tale will keep you reading long past bedtime.
“Clytemnestra’s Bind” offers a thought-provoking and compelling reinterpretation of a classic myth from the Agamemnon and Trojan War tales. It invites readers to reconsider the character of Clytemnestra and the events that shaped her story. Perspective is a game myth-changer.
I received a copy of the book for the tour. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.
