My Thoughts on Doctoroo and the Case of the Picnic Pirates
Doctoroo and the Case of the Picnic Pirates by Dr. Rachel Wellner is a delightful children’s book that is sure to entertain and educate young readers. The story follows Doctoroo, a kangaroo detective, as she sets out to solve the mystery of the missing picnic basket.
One of the things that makes this book stand out is the engaging writing style of Dr. Wellner. The clear and concise language makes it easy for young readers to follow along with the story. The characters are also well-developed, with Doctoroo being a fascinating protagonist. She is intelligent, resourceful, and always ready to solve a problem.
Another standout feature of this book is the illustrations by Irina Dringova. The colorful images bring the story to life and help to make it more accessible for younger readers. The pictures are also a great way to keep children engaged in the story.
The plot itself is simple but effective, keeping children interested while opening conversations about the importance of healthy eating habits. The mystery of the missing picnic basket is a fun puzzle for Doctoroo and her friends to solve, and the resolution is both satisfying and clever.
Overall, Doctoroo and the Case of the Picnic Pirates is an excellent children’s book that I highly recommend. It has everything you could want in a story for young readers: engaging characters, a fun plot, and important life lessons.
I received a copy of the book for the tour. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.

How to Encourage Picky Eaters to Eat Healthy Foods
By Dr. Rachel Wellner
For parents of picky eaters, encouraging their child to eat healthy foods can seem like an overwhelming, or impossible task. However, it is important to remember that teaching children healthy eating habits from a young age is essential for their physical and mental wellbeing. When children are allowed to indulge in processed foods containing too much sugar, too much fat and not enough nutrient-rich foods, they are at risk of developing chronic health conditions such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. These conditions can be very difficult to manage and have a long-term negative impact on quality of life.
Additionally, research has shown that unhealthy eating habits can lead to poor concentration levels in school, which may impair academic performance.
Encouraging picky eaters to eat healthy food does not need to be a stressful experience for either parent or child. With the right approach and attitude towards food education, parents can teach their kids about the joys of healthy eating without feeling overwhelmed.
Introducing picky eaters to nutrient dense foods should be fun – introducing them to new flavors and textures could open up a world of culinary possibilities for the family.
Tips for introducing new foods:
- Go slow when introducing new foods to your child. When you introduce a new food, offer a small manageable portion.
- Make your mealtimes enjoyable. This can be as simple as letting your child pick out their own plate or add exciting decorations to their food.
- Allow your children to help you in the kitchen. When they are helping prepare their meals, they will learn how to make healthier food choices.
- Show enthusiasm when serving healthy foods and talk about all of the positive nutritional values each item has.
- Be creative with flavors and textures to make meals interesting – try adding different spices, sauces, vegetables and fruits that your children may not have seen before! This gives them an opportunity to explore new flavors while also teaching them about nutritious eating habits.
