Making the bullseye isn't the problem. Figuring out who did it is.
Paisley Pointe is a quiet farming community. Nothing much happens there. When the new director for Paisley Pointe’s recreation center announces an archery competition, Granny is all for it. But not everyone in town shares her enthusiasm, especially Early Foxman, who is very vocal about his opinions on change.
When Earl’s barn catches fire in the middle of the night, tensions flare. Was it an accident or was it arson? With the help of her two companions, Harvey and Peeper, both rescue ducks, Granny puts on her spy hat and favorite wig, to figure it out.Can she solve the mystery without becoming a suspect herself or becoming the next victim?
If you like clean, wholesome cozy mysteries with a side of pie, then you’ll enjoy this first book in the Granny Appleton series.

My thoughts on Duck Down
What a fast, fun story to read. Granny Appleton is a hoot! She’s a wig-wearing, golf cart menace, highly skilled in baking pies and solving mysteries.
Somehow how the quirky cast of characters fits right into this setting. Whether it’s beauticians with blonde beehives or pet ducks engaged in larceny, the descriptive writing brings them all to life.
Just when I thought I obviously had the whole mystery solved, another clue is revealed, and I need to change my thoughts on the villain. And let’s face it; this story has some characters that are easy to hate. Yet, there are many more endearing, lovable characters. Harvey and Peepers definitely try to “steal” the show.
I enjoyed the mix of older and younger characters. It’s nice to see a heroine with a bit of age. Although, being nearly the same age as Granny, I’m sure I couldn’t handle the physical challenges she encounters. I wouldn’t be able to get out of bed for a week!
Duck Down is a tale of community. Paisley Pointe is the kind of small town where gossip is the favorite pastime, but everyone pulls together to help when needed.
Addressing the technical side of the book, it’s fast-paced and well-written, with no grammatical errors and only a few typos. The author pulls the reader into the story and adds just the right amount of tension to keep the pages turning. There is no romance in this cozy mystery, which is a refreshing change from current trends.
I highly recommend Duck Down to lovers of entertaining, clean, wholesome, cozy mysteries. I can’t wait for Granny Appleton’s next adventure.
I received a digital copy of the book from the author or publisher to review. This is my honest, unbiased opinion.
