What is the ONE book you are looking forward to reading this summer? Let’s chat about it in the comments.

I’ve been thinking about this lately because I’m again participating in The Reading Ladies Book Club Summer Spectacular. (This link will give you a peek at last year’s post.)

Here are a few books I am considering:

Katherine's Remarkable Road Trip Audiobook cover

Katherine’s Remarkable Road Trip by Gail Ward Olmsted – Yes, I have recently reviewed this book, but I enjoyed it so much I think I’ll re-read it via audiobook.

Seven Summer Weekends by Rosen Audiobook cover

Seven Summer Weekends by Jane L. Rosen

A woman inherits a beach house, along with a series of weekend guests, while butting heads with the irritable (and irritatingly handsome) man next door, in this sparkling new escape from Jane L. Rosen.

The Garden of Memories by Amanda James

The Garden of Memories by Amanda James

With nothing but time on her hands, retired nurse Rose Lanyon finds herself drawn to the garden that had once been her husband’s pride and joy.

It may have started as a means of honouring her husband’s memory, but her little Cornish garden soon becomes so much more—a place where the lost and lonely can find solace, the forgotten can be remembered, and second chances take bloom. Because as long as new life is growing, there will always be hope and new memories to make…

Weekly Friday Finds | 06-21-2024 | Indie Author News

From Mim Eichmann:

You may have known me as a choreographer, ballet instructor, musician, and/or author. Some of my best inspiration in creating ballets over many decades, and more recently, in writing my historical fiction novels, has come from my fascination with popular music from the 1920s-40s. I was exposed at a very young age to much of this music from countless hours listening to my dad and granddad playing ragtime piano as well as learning the popular dances of those early decades from those who’d actually danced them back in the day!

Recently, I’ve had an opportunity to record some of these fun tunes with a terrific jazz ensemble, and I am excited to announce that I’ll be presenting a live music concert with these same incredible musicians coinciding with the release of my historical fiction novel “TAYVIE’S STORY.” “Tayvie’s Story” is something of a tribute to the struggles faced by jazz luminaries such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and many other female vocalists prior to and during World War II.

Our live concert will be at 8 p.m. Friday, August 2, at Tobias Music, 5013 Fairview Ave., Downers Grove, IL. For ticket info, please contact them at tobiasmusic.com or 630.960.2455.

My review of Tayvie’s Story will be live on the blog on June 24th. Gina

Tayvie's Story (A Sparrow Alone Book 3)
  • Amazon Kindle Edition
  • Eichmann, Mim (Author)
  • English (Publication Language)
  • 355 Pages - 07/23/2024 (Publication Date) - Living Springs Publishers (Publisher)

Weekly Friday Finds | 06-21-2024 | Creative News

Last week’s Friday Finds featured Father’s Day gifts. Today, I found a cute, quick, and easy little weaving kit for those curious about weaving. It’s super fun for more experienced weavers to sample and get instant gratification.

Weekly Friday Finds | 06-21-2024 | Trivia Time

This week’s trivia question is:

Which famous American folk figure is known for her skills in weaving and promoting the craft in the 19th century?

The answer to last week’s question:

Which classic novel, written by Miguel de Cervantes and published in two parts in 1605 and 1615, follows the adventures of a nobleman who becomes a knight-errant?

“Don Quixote” by Miguel de Cervantes was originally published in two parts, the first in 1605 and the second in 1615. The story follows the adventures of a nobleman from La Mancha named Alonso Quijano. He reads so many chivalric romances that he loses his sanity and decides to become a knight-errant named Don Quixote de la Mancha1. Accompanied by his squire, Sancho Panza, Don Quixote sets out on a quest to revive chivalry and serve his nation, leading to a series of comedic and poignant misadventures. It’s considered a foundational work of Western literature and is often labeled as the first modern novel.
