Weekly Friday Finds | 08-09-2024| #BookReviews #TriviaWinner #AuthorOfTheMonth #IndieAuthors #SummerRecipes #UniqueCrafts #Books and so much more!
Welcome to the Friday Finds for 08-09-2024.
In my good news for the week, I’m putting lots of fruits & vegetables in the freezer to enjoy this winter. My abacus counters are selling well on Etsy. I think most people use them as golf stroke counters and water trackers this time of year. But I am amazed at all the different uses buyers find for them.
The not-so-good news is that my eyes are acting up again. I’m going back to the specialist soon to find out what’s going on and what needs to be done. Hopefully, it’s a simple fix.
Otherwise, I’m happy and healthy. I hope things are going well for you! Please drop me a note in the comments and let me know how your August is going.
Until next week,
Gina
Note: Amazon links to all books and products are shared at the bottom of the post if they are available. (Using my link does not cost you a penny more, but Amazon shares a few cents with me from their portion.)

Weekly Friday Finds | 08-09-2024 | Books
What are you reading this week? I’m always open to suggestions. I’ve been thinking about re-reading/reading the Agatha Christie novels in order. Are you a fan of classic mysteries?
The Mysterious Affair at Styles
“The Mysterious Affair at Styles” is the first detective novel by Agatha Christie. It was published in 1920. The main character is Captain Arthur Hastings, a participant in the First World War. Wounded at the front, he arrives at Styles Court. Soon, the strange murder of the mistress takes place in the house. Hastings calls an old friend, Hercule Poirot, to investigate this case.

Independent authors are reliant on reader reviews to help get the word out about their books. Reviews are so essential to make sure their book is promoted to other readers. I wish I knew how to explain the effects of a simple review. Even an “I liked it!” will make an Indie author’s day. In light of that, please check out the current promotion from Chevron Ross.
From now through August 14, you can register using the link below for a chance to win an ebook reader plus a free copy of his novel, The Seven-Day Resurrection, along with 26 other fabulous books. There are no entry fees or other complications. Just click the link and follow the instructions.

R. Weir is traveling to Nashville, TN, to attend two bookish events. He’ll be on a panel for Killer Nashville and one for Bouchercon. He’ll have books for sale at both events. This should be a fun time networking with other authors and fans of mysteries, murder, and mayhem.

Weekly Friday Finds | 08-09-2024 | Trivia Time
This week’s trivia question is:
What was the first “printed” cookbook to be published?
Leave your answer in the comment section to be entered into this month’s trivia contest.
The answer to last week’s question:
Who was the first woman to win an Olympic gold medal?
Charlotte Cooper, a British tennis player, was the first woman to win an individual Olympic gold medal. She achieved this historic milestone at the 1900 Paris Olympics, where she won the gold medal in women’s singles tennis. The 1900 Paris Games were the first Olympics in which women were allowed to compete.
Countess Hélène de Pourtalès was the first woman to win a team Olympic gold medal, competing in mixed sailing at the same 1900 Paris Games. The 32-year-old was a crew member on the Lerina along with her husband and helmsman, Count Hermann Alexandre de Pourtalès, and fellow crew member Count Bernard de Pourtalès, her husband’s nephew. The trio won gold for Switzerland in the first race of the 1-2 tonne class on May 22, 1900, on the River Seine in Meulan.
I’m accepting either answer for the purposes of this contest.
Jess A. won the latest trivia raffle. She has been contacted via email about her prize.
Author Ann Trader had the best engagement on my website recently, so she has been awarded the “Author of the Month” badge. Here is my review of Truth and Dare (The Wonder of Wildflowers #1) by Ann. I hope to have more reviews of her books available soon.

Sorry to hear about your eyes! I hope this can be fixed asap
I’ve heard it’s common to have a haze form after lens replacements. If that’s what it is, they can zap it right off. So that’s what I’m hoping for, quick & simple fix. Not like last fall when I had to avoid all sunlight while I was getting weekly treatments.
I hope your eyes will be ok! Maybe it’s dry eyes.
Thank you so much for the prize! I love trivia questions. I think the answer to this week’s is De honesta voluptate et valetudine by Bartolomeo Platina
On no! Our troublesome eyes! I just had cataract surgery (because detached retina surgery causes cataracts) and it did improve my vision….doc was very pleased. But I still have retina damage which I need to live with. I’m grateful to have the vision I have. Hoping your appointment goes well. 🙏
I’m sorry to hear that, Carol. Eye problems are rough on readers like us.
Drooling over Churro Cheesecake bars!
Me too. I can’t wait to try them.
Those Cheesecake bars look good and yummy, have you tried them yet?
I haven’t, but as soon as possible I’m be trying them. I’ll let you know!
