Weekly Friday Finds | 10-04-2024
Welcome to Friday Finds, 10-04-2024. I hope you have had a wonderful week. It doesn’t exactly feel like fall outside, but the calendar says October, so I’m going autumnal with my theme today.
Not much is happening here on the farm. We’ve eaten the last of the tomatoes. Onions and fall radishes are ready. The turnips should be done later this month, and then we can do the final clean-up and put the garden to bed for the winter.
I try to link to anything mentioned in this post at the bottom. I particularly love my dicer. It makes chopping and freezing onions so easy. I love grabbing a handful of diced garden onions to use all winter in my cooking.
I’m off to visit the closest grandkids today. It’s their school’s Homecoming. The Grand-princess will be marching in the parade and performing with the color guard during the football game. The grandsons will do some serious snacking at the concession stand. They are more interested in that than football!
I’ll also get to visit the Great-Grand Princess. Boys are much more prevalent in our family, so only the two girls so far. I hope to meet the newest great-grandson today, but he is less than a week old, and visitors are limited for now. Maybe I’ll bribe the new parents with some deviled eggs. That’s their favorite dish that I make.
Until next week, Peace & Happiness!
Gina

The Lesser Known Travel Tips memoirs are a hilarious series of travel misadventures and dubious personal introspection by Australian author Simon Yeats, who from an early age learned that the best way to approach the misfortunes of this world is to laugh about them.
Simon shares his comedic insights into the unusual and uproarious elements of living life as an Aussie ex-pat and having a sense of Wanderlust as pervasive as the Spanish Flu in 1918 or hordes of Mongols in 12th Century.

The mix of romance and mystery against the backdrop of a charming, slightly mysterious small town gives the story a cozy vibe but with plenty of intrigue to keep things exciting.

Weekly Friday Finds |10-04-2024 | Recipes
If you’ve never had Texas sheet cake, you’re in for a treat! This Southern-inspired cake is traditionally made as a chocolate-on-chocolate cake baked in a large sheet pan. It gets frosted with chocolate fudge icing and served directly from the pan for a brilliantly easy cake perfect for parties, potlucks, or just chocolate lovers. While you can serve Texas sheet cake with or without pecans on top, most Texans will tell you that pecans are not optional. I usually put nuts on half and leave the other side plain.
The Pancake Princess did a taste test bake off of nine recipes. I may have to try them all to see how they stack up to my recipe!
If you try any of the recipes, let me know your favorite.

Since we’re trying all the cakes, let’s have a healthy main dish. We recently made salmon grilled on a cedar plank, and it was delicious.
I used very light seasoning. In a simple hack, I used one of the little tubs of garlic butter sauce left over from a pizza to smear on the salmon and make the seasonings stick. Then I sprinkled on some Penzey’s Mitchell Street Seasoning and a bit of Everything Bagel.

Congrats on your newest great-grandson.
Deceptions of Chenille by Sally Dallas sounds like my kind of book. I like all kinds of thrillers and haven’t read a romantic thriller is a while so might add this one to my TBR.
I love the idea of Trivia Time. So fun!
Salmon is one of my favourite foods and yours looks yummy. Those cake recipes have made me hungry too.
Thanks for stopping by, Jo. My Friday Finds are a labor of love. But, readers seem to connect with it really well. I try to have one thing to appeal to readers, no matter what their focus is. I’m pretty excited about the new baby. I can’t wait to snuggle him.
I will definitely be trying some of those Texas Sheet Cake Recipes, they look yummy. My sister makes a plain one, but some of these look great.
Also, congratulations on the newest great-grandson, Gina. I hope you have had the chance to meet him and even hold him.
Not yet, but I’m hopeful for soon.
Me too, Carla. That’s one of my favorite cakes. I rarely use nuts on mine, but they do look good.
Congratulations on a new grandson! Wow! Sharing your post, like always!
Thank you, Eve. And I appreciate your shares.
Forgot to say how much I liked the crafts too, thanks Gina
Books look like interesting reads especially Deceptions of Chenille
Thanks for stopping by, Crystal. It’s quite the thriller/mystery.
