❄️Welcome to the Friday Finds 5 December 2025

If you’re new here, I’m so glad you found your way to this cozy corner of the bookish world. Every Friday, we gather to celebrate indie authors, share delicious tidbits, explore creative inspiration, and chat like old friends over virtual cocoa.

To catch you up on the latest, I was on a family holiday when I injured my back. That led to a weakness in my leg, which turned into an unplanned tumble down the wooden stairs at our rental house. After a trip to the hospital, several x-rays, and a pharmacy’s worth of meds, I was patched up enough to keep enjoying family time. The brightest part of the week? Plenty of grandkid snuggles—truly the best medicine.

A quick note for our regulars: there’s no featured indie author this week while I continue healing and catching up on work—but the spotlight returns next Friday! If you have a favorite indie author you’d love to see celebrated, feel free to nominate them on my site. I always adore your suggestions.

If you’re catching up on past editions, you can browse the complete Friday Finds archive ➡️ HERE.

So grab something warm to sip, get comfy, and let’s jump into this week’s finds!

Boy With Wings by Mark Mustian

Boy With Wings swept me into one of the most haunting and tender Southern Gothic stories I’ve read in a while. It’s a lyrical blend of magical realism and historical fiction that lingers long after the final page.

Mexican Wedding Cookies

These are my favorite holiday cookies. They are usually only available in store during December. This could be a dangerous recipe for me to add to my cookie recipe box. I might be tempted to make them all year!

Do you have a favorite holiday cookie? Please share the recipe in the comments. We can never have too many cookies for the holiday parties.

  1. I realized I missed last week's Friday Finds when you mentioned about your back injury so I thought I'd better go read what happened! I'm sorry to hear and I hope you feel better soon!
My favorite December memories are from when I was little and my mom, grammy, and my sister would all go to my aunt and uncle's house in Reading to go to Park City and me and my sister would walk around and suggest what we each wanted and then we'd split up so we could buy each other a gift for Christmas.

  2. Saundra Bowers

Making snow angels with my grandmother when I was a child. Now that i have grandchildren of my own and have done the same thing with them, both are wonderful December memories!

    • Me too. I have a friend who paints seasonal scenes on restaurant pickle jars. She always makes me ones with old trucks.

  3. Whoa! Hope the meds are doing their thing and you're on the mend soon, Gina!! One of my fondest Christmas memories growing up was making Mexican Wedding Cookies -- aka snowball cookies -- with my mom. Other than slice 'n bake sugar cookies, I don't think she ever made any other cookies ... or desserts at all for that matter. Sending along healing vibes! stay warm ~ mim

First, I'm glad you are feeling better and was able to enjoy the holiday. My favorite December memory is sitting outside an ice cream shop in 80 degree weather when we visited our daughter who lived in Alabama. Quite different than being at home in 20 degree weather.

  5. My favorite December Memory is even though my Dad missed my birthday 🎂 & Christmas due to being in on strike at his workplace my favorite memory is when he got to finally come home we all celebrated him coming home, my birthday and Christmas all at once because I was really happy to have dad home again that's my favorite memory
    HOPE I WIN
