Friday Finds – February 14, 2020 – Books

ir?t=wwwginamitche 20&language=en US&l=li2&o=1&a=B07SPDBCJ1 City of Dark by C. H. Dickinson

The Paris catacombs. The city’s subterranean shadow. Hundreds of kilometers of tunnels. A land of history and legend, where the underground explorer treads a fine line between reality and irreality. Below the City of Light, this is the City of Dark. As the top inspector on the counter-terror squad, Khalid Sadiqi thought he knew everything there was to know about the city’s weak spots. But even he is rattled when he arrives at Val de Grace military hospital and discovers that not only has the Prime Minister been assassinated, but the catacombs were used to break into the secure facility.

As if that weren’t enough, the killer has left behind puzzling messages making the attack feel like a warped game of cat-and-mouse. As the link to the catacombs crystallizes, Sadiqi teams up with Antonia Corrigan, a vibrant foreign engineering student who enlightens him on the world below the city. Not only does she have intricate knowledge of the layout of the underground tunnels, she also knows all the myths and legends that will provide deeper insight into the case. But will her knowledge of the tunnels below ground be enough to stop the mayhem above?

ir?t=wwwginamitche 20&language=en US&l=li2&o=1&a=B07WD1T3WB Good Morning, Bellingham by Marina Raydun

When Peta goes missing, a two-decade-old secret threatens to rip at the seams and come out in the open. Relationships are tested as one dysfunctional family comes together in search of their daughter, sister, and wife. What they find instead will change each one of them forever.

ir?t=wwwginamitche 20&language=en US&l=li2&o=1&a=B07ZNW4NVN Crooked River by Preston & Child (Agent Pendergast series)

Appearing out of nowhere to horrify the quiet resort town of Sanibel Island, Florida, dozens of identical, ordinary-looking shoes float in on the tide and are washed up on the tropical beach–each one with a crudely severed human foot inside.

Called away from vacation elsewhere in the state, Agent Pendergast reluctantly agrees to visit the crime scene–and, despite himself, is quickly drawn in by the incomprehensible puzzle. An early pathology report only adds to the mystery. With an ocean of possibilities confronting the investigation, no one is sure what happened, why, or from where the feet originated. And they desperately need to know: are the victims still alive?

In short order, Pendergast finds himself facing the most complex and inexplicable challenge of his career: a tangled thread of evidence that spans seas and traverses continents, connected to one of the most baffling mysteries in modern medical science. Through shocking twists and turns, all trails lead back to a powerful adversary with a sadistic agenda and who–in a cruel irony–ultimately sees in Pendergast the ideal subject for their malevolent research.

In our world today there are monumental and exponential changes occurring. These changes are happening not just in the local, international, and global arenas, but even within ourselves. Looking at ourselves, our governments, our societies, humanity, and the world in general, many questions and concerns may come to mind. Let us explore these, and discuss our responsibilities and the necessary actions that will help guide us into our future. It is important to look beyond isolationism or globalization.

There are many different contributing factors to our immediate surroundings, the cultures we live in, and the changing situations that all humanity shares. And there are also many different forms of cause and effect at work. We must examine all of humanity, from the various cultures and sub-cultures that exist to our individual selves.

The purpose of this book is to have you ask a variety of engaging questions, both of yourself and about the world around you. I want to help you explore these deep questions so you can find answers that will ultimately help you survive the intense upheavals of today.

In case you missed it!!

It was a fun week on the website. I reviewed an exceptionally good romantic comedy, mystery, thriller, spy novel. No matter how you classify Redhead in a Blue Convertible by Ivan Scott, It’s my “don’t miss this book” winner so far this month.

I also participated in a book blitz for The Mocking Man by Leslie Georgeson and a Release Day Party for Municipal Liaisons ( Fortuna, Texas Book 4) by Rochelle Bradley.

  1. Happy Valentine’s Day, Gina!
I think that mandala kit is pretty cool. I ordered one—I might give it to a grandchild, but then again, I might keep it for myself!

    Have a great day!
