Friday Finds for 18 February 2022 | Books, Yarn, Pottery, Blog Visits, Keto, Calzones, & Retro Chocolate Cake
Welcome to today’s edition of the Friday Finds! Please read to the bottom. I need your input.
I’m writing this on a Thursday afternoon in the midst of another winter storm. We’ve had heavy rain for about 24 hours so everything is flooded. Moments ago, the precipitation switched to ice and it should switch over to snow this evening. Luckily I ran errands yesterday and I can just cozy up here at home for the rest of the week. But, I wanted to get this post written in case the power goes out.
Did you grow up in or currently live in an area that has winter weather? What’s your favorite winter hobby? Other than the occasional snowball fight, I’m more of a drink hot cocoa, read a book, and work on a puzzle kind of gal nowadays. I’m sure if you’ve been reading this blog for any time at all, you know the beach is my happy place.
Well let’s get into the Friday Finds and quit talking about the weather, it’s making me cold just to talk about it.
P.S. Deb M won the email newsletter contest last week. Make sure you are signed up for your chance to be rewarded.
And to all the newsletter recipients…add the chopped cabbage at the same time as the broth! I evidently can’t proofread my own words.
Friday Finds for 18 February 2022 | Books
Ascendance of a Bookworm by Miya Kazuki
This book series just flashed on my radar. I can’t believe there are 18 books in the series and I’m just learning about it. It sure ticks all the boxes for things I love in a book.
From Book 1: A certain college girl who’s loved books ever since she was a little girl dies in an accident and is reborn in another world she knows nothing about. She is now Myne, the sickly five-year-old daughter of a poor soldier. To make things worse, the world she’s been reborn in has a very low literacy rate and books mostly don’t exist. She’d have to pay an enormous amount of money to buy one.
Myne resolves herself: If there aren’t any books, she’ll just have to make them! Her goal is to become a librarian. This story begins with her quest to make books so she can live surrounded by them! Dive into this biblio-fantasy written for book lovers and bookworms!

Deliciously Dark Fairytales by K. F. Breene (4-book series)
A dark and steamy spin on the Beauty and the Beast classic.
I could save him, but he would ruin me.
The beast.
The creature that stalks the forbidden wood.
The dragon prince.
He has suffered a fate worse than death. We all have. A curse put upon us by the mad king.
We are a kingdom locked in time. Shifters unable to feel our animals. Stuck here by a deal between the late king and a demon who seeks our destruction.
The only one keeping this kingdom alive is Nyfain, the golden prince to a stolen throne. The last dragon shifter.
He’s our hope.
He’s my nightmare.

I need your input, please!
I work on this post randomly throughout the week, adding items as they grab my attention. Here are my questions.
- Is the Friday Finds post too long?
- Would it be better to just list one item in each category (like the best thing I saw this week)?
- Do you always read the entire post?
- Which category would you like to see more or less of?
- If you could offer one tip to make the Friday Finds better, what would it be?

Hi Gina!
I don’t think the posts are too long. As others have mentioned, I just skim through and read what interests me. I love anything related to cooking, so your recipes are great! And love reading the book reviews!
Regarding your question about where we grew up, I am a life-long Michigander! And like you, Gina, not much into winter hobbies so reading and working a puzzle are more my style. When I’m bored and not writing, I usually pull out a recipe and whip up some complicated baked good while my husband cleans up after me!!
I have one of those husbands that will clean up after me when I cook. They are pretty special. Thanks for your input on the Friday Finds.
Your posts are just right. Don’t change anything.
Thanks, Ms. Trouble! So good to hear from you.
Hi Gina,
I hope you stay warm and don’t lose power!
I don’t always read everything in the Friday Finds post. I generally skim through and look at the pictures to see what might interest me. So in that respect I don’t think the posts are too long because you never know what might spark interest.
Thanks, Jessica. I’m a skimmer too. That’s why I like to include the clickable table of contents, you can go right to the section you want to read first. But then, you do lose the chance to skim that way.
Your posts are great! Not too long, but when I’m in a hurry, I fly by some amazing recipes!!
Thanks, Eve. You can always come back & check them out later. I try to tag the recipes on each post so they become searchable.
In response to your question Gina, I don’t read everything you post, but I like your website because it’s got something for everyone. It’s also got a friendly atmosphere. I wouldn’t change a thing.
Thanks so much for the input, Chevron, Btw, I can’t wait to participate in your upcoming blog tour. My date is March 2. I hope it’s a great success for us both.
