Friday Finds Roundup | August 21, 2020
I’m coming to you from beautiful Wisconsin this week. I’ll be staying with family here for the foreseeable future. Due to the “thing”, daycares are not yet open at the university and the few open ones in town are not accepting new children or don’t seem as safe. So Nana and PopPop to the rescue. We’ll be staying with the grandboys to help out. The bonus is lots of extra bonding time. I love that we are in a position to help out. It is hard to move across the country and start a new job, let alone in the middle of a pandemic!
I’ll try my best to maintain some semblance of a routine, but the FF may occasionally be a bit erratic on posting times.

Fog Coast Runaway by Linda B Myers
To escape her dangerous family, a young girl vanishes on the 1890s Oregon coast. Adelia Wright never knew her mother. Her father, a lighthouse keeper far out to sea, is distant, literally and figuratively. After her brother terrorizes her once too often, Adelia decides there must be a better home elsewhere, one with less pain, more affection, and enough to eat. She is armed only with survival skills learned from a Clatsop native and immigrant Finnish settlers.
Her perilous journey takes her to Seaside, Oregon where she works in the scullery of a posh hotel. Adelia is soon on the run again, sought regarding a murdered guest…this time with a frightened little boy in tow. Adelia finds temporary shelter in a logging camp, then makes her way to the filthy docks of Swilltown in what is today’s Astoria.
As she grows to womanhood, her path includes abandonment and romance, sorrow, and joy. It is a twisting pilgrimage to Adelia’s discovery that a collected family can outshine a birth family. The lighthouse at Tillamook Rock is not the only beacon that lights her way. Fog Coast Runaway is historical fiction for anyone who loves the pioneer spirit, the pluck of True Grit, and the wilds of the Pacific Northwest.
Threads in Time by Hannah De Giorgis
Twenty-two-year-old Lyndall Huxley wakes to find herself thousands of years into the future. Something went wrong with the program for which she volunteered – a program that employs Einstein’s laws of relativity to send travelers forward in time. The ruins overrun by green woodland in which she wakes are a far cry from the urbanized world she left behind in the 2200s. Lyndall embarks upon a journey that will leave her questioning her very identity. She must choose between the new life that beckons and the old life from which, even thousands of years later, she cannot escape. She will discover that the mission was never about sending people into the future. Much more is at stake.

We don’t plant zucchini very often anymore. With just two of us at home, we only need a few per season. These are easily obtained from the local farmer’s market or friends. You know how overwhelming zucchini can be. People have been known to drop sacks full of them off in the middle of the night. Who knew drive-by fruit & vegetable bombing was a thing. It doesn’t seem to matter if you want or need them, people just can’t stand the thought of throwing them out. If you have an abundance or a few, here are a couple of recipes for you.
The Best Zucchini Bread
