Welcome to this week’s edition. This weekend is a special one for me. Not only do we celebrate Labor Day here in the states but, it’s also my anniversary. This is our 44th wedding anniversary. It’s a little shocking to even write that number. It doesn’t seem that long ago to me. Yet, we were so young and naive. We had to get married over Labor Day weekend so we could take a 2-day honeymoon. I remember begging to take Saturday morning off when I was getting married at 6 pm. The bank saw no reason I couldn’t work until noon!
Our life is in such a different place now. Retirement is a dream come true for us. We have the luxury of traveling when and where we want. (Before the plague came.) I also have the opportunity to fulfill my dreams of reading to my heart’s content, then writing reviews and recommendations of what I read.
My life is blessed, that’s for sure.

Wild Horses on the Salt by Anne Montgomery
Can Rebecca find hope in the wilds of the Arizona desert?
Escaping her abusive husband, Rebecca hops the red-eye to Arizona. There, Gaby Strand – her aunt’s college roommate – gives her shelter at the Salt River Inn, a 1930’s guesthouse located in the wildly beautiful Tonto National Forest.
Becca struggles with post-traumatic stress but is enthralled by the splendor of the Sonoran Desert. Soon, she meets Noah Tanner, a cattle rancher and beekeeper, Oscar Billingsley, a retired psychiatrist and avid birder, and the blacksmith, Walt. Thanks to her new friends and a small band of wild horses, Becca adjusts to life in the desert and rekindles her love of art.
After Becca’s husband tracks her down, she has to summon all her strength. But can she finally stop running away?
Firewing by Jennifer Povey
Cat is living as quiet a life as the only human/demon hybrid in existence can; practicing as an alchemist, spending time with her adoptive family and her girlfriend, and keeping her head down. But she is the only human/demon hybrid in existence, and when cultists attack her and those close to her, she realizes that keeping her head down can never be her solution. Instead, she must cross the face of Yirath, see the deep-running conflicts for herself, and face her destiny in the demon city of Arok-Kor.
Embers of Memories by A.K. Rohner

That is, until a mysterious crow shows up on his balcony… and turns into a man. Offered the location of his brother, Aaron realizes that he’s about to enter a new, much more dangerous chapter in his life. With guard dogs from hell, spirits of the dead, vampires, and a dark dragon hungry for his blood, Aaron must face the biggest threat of his life. But this time… he’ll have an army behind him.
Celdric Kane : The Unwished by Nina Mofme
Eleven-year-old Celdric Kane has only one simple wish: to find his parents. It doesn’t even matter that they are the most-wanted fugitives in history ever. Fortunately, like all children of Durkmyst Clan, he has seven chances to get the Golden Sphiere Leaf, a magical leaf that can grant even the most impossible birthday wish.
He finally gets his Golden Sphiere Leaf on his eleventh birthday. However, he has to use it to save his genius yet reckless little brother, Dyl Kane, which unfortunately makes his brother disappear into an unknown place in the World Beside—a world resided by fairies, gnomes, and even monsters.
Fortunately, Celdric gets unexpected help from his eccentric grandmother. Then, together with his worrywart, secretive older sister, Sera Kane, and an arrogant, cute monster, Feon, Celdric starts his journey to find and save his brother. He has to hurry, though. After all, there are others who are also hell-bent on finding his brother.
