Christmas is coming… and so is murder…

It’s holiday season in small-town Doyle, and the town is pivoting from UFO tourism to Bigfoot Days.

For Susan Witsend, the owner of Doyle’s only UFO-themed B&B, this is a problem.
But when Bigfoot is blamed for a mass garden gnome theft, control-freak Susan is drafted to track down the kidnapped gnomes.

And when one of the members of her caroling group is murdered, it will take all her organizational skills to juggle missing gnomes and track down a killer.

As Susan unwraps motives and alibis, she’s forced to face hard truths about her own limits and about just how far a crafty killer will go.

Excerpt from Gnome Alone

“Bigfoot’s been messing with our garden gnomes.” Mr. Gomez’s brows drew down in a glower.

I studied the three elderly men, bundled in parkas and fur-lined boots. Bracing one mittened hand on Mr. Gomez’s mudroom wall, I knocked more snow off my boots. “Ah… I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do with that.”

Mr. Gomez’s frown deepened, his round face crinkling above his red scarf. His snowy hair stuck up in fierce licks, like an incoming mountain blizzard. “You’re a detective, Susan, aren’t you?”

“No, I’m really just nosy.” Okay. I was being modest. I was a crack amateur detective, and I’d helped our local sheriff solve several murders. But I don’t like to brag.

Though news about my prowess as an investigator had clearly spread through small-town Doyle. After so many successes, it was bound to happen. And we were going to be late for caroling practice if we didn’t move soon.

“Garden gnomes should be no problem for a bright young thing like you,” Mr. Gomez said. “This is serious. What if Bigfoot was the one who broke into that house last month on Sequoia Street? That’s only six blocks away.”

I pinched the bridge of my nose. Bigfoot. Of course. In a fit of madness, our small town had decided that decorating for the holidays wasn’t enough. We had to layer something called Bigfoot Days on top of the season. If I saw another Bigfoot Santa hat, I thought I might scream.

My thoughts on Gnome Alone

The crazy cast of characters from the town of Doyle is back again. This time the UFO-obsessed town is trying to add Bigfoot Days into their holiday celebrations. So naturally, a Bigfoot creature is stealing yard gnomes.

Our intrepid heroine, Susan, is recruited to investigate since the sheriff’s office is busy. But, when a murderer strikes, the investigation takes a deadly turn.

The author writes with a delightful sense of humor and sarcasm. She has the ability to make the words form a movie in your head. The intrigue builds page by page with red herrings and misdirections galore.

The covers of this series are so well done. They are funny, bright, and vibrant. I also reviewed War of the Squirrels from this series and featured Never Say Chai from Kirsten’s Tea & Tarot Cozy Mystery series

While this book is part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone. With cozy mysteries though, I find I enjoy them more if I read them in order.

Grab a copy of this laugh-out-loud tale today. Gnome Alone is a great holiday stress reliever!

I received a copy of the book for the tour. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.

About Kirsten Weiss

Kirsten Weiss Author image

From Kirsten Weiss:

I believe in free-will, and that we all can make a difference. I believe that beauty blossoms in the conscious life, particularly with friends, family, and strangers. I believe that genre fiction has become generic, and it doesn’t have to be.

My current focus is my new Mystery School series, starting with Legacy of the Witch. Traditionally, women’s fiction refers to fiction where a woman—usually in her midlife—is going through some sort of dramatic change. A lot of us do go through big transitions in midlife. We get divorced or remarried. The kids leave the nest. Our bodies change. The midlife crisis is real—though it manifests in different ways—as we look back on where we’ve been, where we’re going, and the time we have left.

Now in my mid-fifties, I’ve spent more time thinking about the big “meaning of life” issues. It seemed like approaching those issues through witch fiction, and through a fictional mystery school, would be a fun and a useful way for me to work out some of these ideas in my own head—about change and letting go, faith and fear, and love and longing.

After growing up on a diet of Nancy Drew, Sherlock Holmes, and Agatha Christie, I’ve published over 60 mysteries—from cozies to supernatural suspense, as well as an experimental fiction book on Tarot. Spending over 20 years working overseas in international development, I learned that perception is not reality, and things are often not what they seem—for better or worse.

There isn’t a winter holiday or a type of chocolate I don’t love, and some of my best friends are fictional.
