Instant Pot Eggs turn out perfect whether you are a first-time user or a seasoned pro.
Hard boiled eggs & deviled eggs are a staple in this family. We eat them plain, chop them for salads, and deviled eggs are a much requested dish for family dinners.

I “usually” use farm-fresh eggs but I have not found that store-bought eggs turn out differently using the Instant Pot.
In past years, I always had issues with peeling the shells from the eggs. There is nothing more frustrating than to spend unnecessary time fighting with the peeling process. I tried all the tips: start with cold water, add eggs first, add eggs after the water boils, add vinegar or salt to the water. Nothing worked consistently enough to say…”Aha, this is it!”.
The day I discovered Instant Pot Eggs I found my answer.
By using this simple Instant Pot Eggs recipe, your days of fighting the egg peeling battle will be over. It’s a no-fuss, no-mess recipe. Your shells will practically fall off the eggs & you can move on to whatever you are making with them.
Since this is a problem so many cooks struggle with, I had to share.
I use an 8 quart Instant Pot but the recipe works with any size. The only difference is the number of eggs you can fit in a smaller pot. However, the formulas is the same regardless of the pot size. I have made just 6 Instant Pot Eggs and up to 20 eggs at one time with no variation to the recipe.
My deviled eggs are a family favorite for get-togethers. Look for that recipe on the blog very soon. I get requests for deviled eggs and veggie pizza summer and winter. Now that I use my Instant Pot, large quantities of deviled eggs are a breeze to make. I may or may not have let the family know just how simple they are to make now. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Don’t you just love “cook’s secrets”!

Instant Pot Eggs
- Add a minimum of one cup of water to the instant pot.
- Place the eggs in a steam basket or specially designed egg holder
- Close the lid and turn the steam release knob to seal (Not venting). I have made this mistake more times than I care to admit.
- Set the Instant Pot to manual high pressure for 4 minutes and walk away. It will take the pot a bit of time to come to pressure.
- When the timer counts down to zero, let the pot sit for 4 more minutes. Simply use the counter on the pot.
- Carefully turn the steam release knob to venting. You will learn your level of comfort on this step very quickly. The first few times I was leery so I used the hole in the handle of the spoon that came with the pot to do this. Next I graduated to using an oven mitt or my finger mitts, but now I just carefully turn it with my fingers.
- After you have released the steam, remove the eggs to an ice bath.
- Leave them to chill for 4 minutes.
- They are ready to peel. I simply crack the shell on the side of the sink. The shell comes right off, sometimes in 2 neat sections.
- Slice or chop your Instant Pot Eggs and you are ready to go!
Easiest hard-boiled eggs ever
Very rarely do I find an egg that is difficult to peel. When I do, I simply blame it on a cantankerous chicken.
Did you catch the simple numbers involved in this recipe?
Instant Pot Eggs = 4-4-4! That’s easy enough to remember.
- 4 minutes of high pressure
- 4 minutes to rest in the pot
- 4 minutes in an ice bath
Since everyone’s tastes vary a bit, you can easily adjust this recipe to 3-3-3 if you like your eggs a bit less done or 5-5-5 if you want them even firmer. For me, 4-4-4 is perfect.
I have made just 6 Instant Pot Eggs and up to 20 eggs at one time with no variation to the recipe.
Total recipe time is difficult to list on this recipe since it depends on how many eggs you are peeling. I am estimating under 30 minutes for most people making a dozen Instant Pot Eggs.

I should have checked the thread in Create if Writing sooner! I looked at a recipe on line for Instant Pot eggs and it said to put four eggs in—I needed more, so I was scared to add more. Now I know! Thank you!
