My thoughts on Jack Gregson and the Stolen Sons
“Jack Gregson and the Stolen Sons” is book two of the series. I strongly suggest you read book one first. It’s essential to get to know the three young heroes and understand the universe, the horde, and the magic systems.
In book two, the author upped his writing game. The book flows well, and he added more humor. The action keeps you on the edge of your seat as you frantically turn the pages to see what could possibly happen next. I love the wittiness of this book.
Jarl, the pixie, is a new character, and she tries her best to steal the show. She may seem a bit “dim,” but her light shines brightly throughout the tale.
Middle-grade and young adult readers are the projected audience for the Jack Gregson series, but all ages should love this book.
I give it a solid four stars and think fans of the fantasy genre will love the book.
I received a copy of the book for the tour. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.

Author Interview
How long have you been writing?
I’ve been writing since high school (that was a long time ago!). I started out writing short stories and did that for many years. I joined the writing.com community and loved entering competitions and having my writing reviewed by peers. It wasn’t until around 6 years ago that I started writing longer pieces and completed the first Jack Gregson novel.
What is the last great book you’ve read?
Robin Hobb is one of those authors that I really enjoy, so I would put her last novel up there as one of the recent great books I’ve read (although that’s a few years ago). I just finished re-reading House of Leaves again. It’s the third time I’ve read it over the last 20 odd years and I’m always impressed with it.
Which was the hardest character to write? The easiest?
The easiest character to write is Jarl. She’s a little nutty and thinks in the moment. and for some reason, I find writing in her voice and logic fun and easy. I suppose the hardest character isn’t really a character, it’s the horde. Trying to maintain a level of creepiness to the dark mist I find difficult at times.
If you could put yourself as a character in your book, who would you be?
I’d be Anthrow. He’s well-traveled and a little mysterious. I’d like to write more about him and get to know him better.
What is your next project?
My next project is Jack Gregson Book 3: The Gifted Deceiver. I’ve started on it, and am excited to round out the trilogy.
Where do you get inspiration for your stories?
The original inspiration for Jack Gregson was a photo competition on a writing blog. Someone took a photo of a door in a staircase and asked people to write about what was behind it.
What genre do you write and why?
I mostly write fantasy / Sci-fi. I suppose because that’s what I love to read. I’ve also written a crime novel (well 99% done!) that’s set in the real world. I wrote that one on request from my wife.
In terms of the book being middle-grade / young-adult, I never really set out to aim at that market, I just started writing Jack Gregson & the Forgotten Portal and that tone suited the story best.
Where do you write?
All around the house on the laptop. Sometimes I’ll write a note on the work computer when I have a thought. I don’t have a special location or spot that drives me.
Thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions for my readers, Jack. I appreciate it.
