July 29, 2018 Newsletter
This is the link to A Gathering Place’s Facebook page. You really need to visit if you are in the area. They have everything from Christmas to vintage styled items, as well as a large collection of Vera Bradley products. You could spend days roaming the store & not see everything. A Gathering Place also has the most delightful café that serves the best yeast rolls. Look out Beef House there is a new player in town!
My birthday girl was busy while she was here.
These are such special times that we get to spend with our grandchildren. Liam has his 7th birthday soon so we are looking forward to his special visit.
BookFunnel is sponsoring Clean Summer Reading 2018! Enjoy 68 short stories and novellas, all 100% free to download! (Some require your to enter your email to claim.) The stories contain no sex and minimum violence and language. I suppose those last two are subject to what you consider minimal? My friend Robert Kugler ( I featured his book The Last Good Day in this post), has included the prequel to that book (The Day Before) in this offering. I think you will enjoy it.
The Earl and His Lady by Sally Britton was sent to me as an Advance Reader Copy for me to preview. This is book 4 of the Branches of Love series. I have not read the first 3 in the series but I still loved this one. It reads great as a stand alone novel.
This is the reason I am rather short on books suggestions to offer this week. But, I’ll make up for it this winter when I can settle in with a bowl of soup made from summer garden vegetables and read to my heart’s content.
Look for my July Reading List post coming soon. You might also enjoy some of the past reading lists.
What to Eat
Strawberries in Red Wine Syrup – A perfect summer dessert served over ice cream. This recipe & photo are from the Brooklyn Supper website and I can not wait to try it!
Tomato-Onion-Cucumber Salad – Fast, simple and delicious. This quick & simple recipe is one I created when I started to make pico but did not have cilantro or fresh limes available. I think it tasted good with salt & pepper but even better with a dash of garam masala seasoning.
Cilantro Lime Grilled Salmon – Healthy but delish! The total time to prep & cook this is just 25 minutes. You can’t beat this dish from Delish.com for a low-fat summer entrée!
Grilled Garden Vegetables – Toss these veggies in an aluminum pan along with your salmon for another low-fat tasty recipe. This recipe & photo are from Land o’Lakes butter but seriously, a couple of tablespoons of butter to cook an entire dish this good can’t be bad.
Don’t these recipes just shout summer mealtime perfection? I hope you give them a try.
What to Make
Recycled Plastic Bottle Lanterns – Jazz up any area, inside or outdoors. This creation & photo come from Handmade Charlotte. Her website is full of great ideas.
Weave a Shiver of Sharks for Shark week! Interweave Press has a wonderful article on weaving these cute sharks on a pin loom with just a touch of crochet.
Slow Curves by Joji Locatelli is a beautiful knitted wrap that is 20% off thru July 31st. Wouldn’t this make the most beautiful beach wrap? I love the unique use of yarns to create the effect.
Crochet Cocktail Napkins by Tamara Kelly. Make them as fancy as you want. Shown here are her plain and dressy. She used her Cricut machine to make the fancy ones. I will admit I am fascinated by what can be done on a Cricut.
Make Little Quilted Buckets to use up all that quilting stash. If you don’t have a stash (hahaha), it only takes 3 fat quarters to make.
That’s it for the July 29, 2018 Newsletter. I hope you enjoy it. Please share it with your friends.
Until next time!
