June 2018 Reading List
The June 2018 reading list is a bit longer than usual. I read voraciously this month to keep my mind occupied.
This was a tough month.
My mother passed away on June 15th after an extended illness. To keep my sanity during this melancholy time, I read. I read comedies, rom-com, regular romance, fantasy, recipe books, fan fiction, short stories, newspapers, cereal boxes. If there were words near me, I read them. It was a reading extravaganza! I will try to give a complete list but I may miss a couple. If so I will add them to next months’ list.

I read most of my books on my iPad using the Kindle App and my Kindle Unlimited subscription. Most of the June 2018 reading list choices I purchased but there are a couple ARCs I was sent to review before they were released to the public. My youngest grandson & his parents came to visit for 10 days. I am listing a few of the many books I read to him. There are more links, images, and synopses below the bullet list. I hope you read on to see if any of this month’s selections appeal to you.
Let’s talk books!!

Surviving Revision: How One Writer Finished What She Started, K. Kris Loomis
Surviving Revision: How One Writer Finished What She Started is a humorous first-hand account of a first-time novelist grappling with how to turn her disheveled vomit draft into a novel someone besides her mother might want to read.
Unruly characters, infuriating loglines, wayward settings and haphazard props provide stumbling blocks and “ah-ha” moments. Accidental discoveries, astonishing surprises, and amazing improvements lurk between these pages, and by the end of the book, you will be convinced that you, too, can revise your own work into something you can be proud of!
Sandover Beach Memories, Emma St. Claire
When Jenna returns home to Sandover Island after her mother’s death, love is the last thing on her mind. The ink is barely dry on her divorce from her cheating husband and she simply wants to make plans for a new future. But she can’t seem to avoid her past.
Four Days of Christmas, Emma St. Clair
Natalie isn’t looking for romance after getting out of a long-term relationship with the guy she thought was The One. But when she takes a job as an elf in the mall’s Santa’s Workshop Photo Place over college break, sparks fly…with more than one man.
Cold Feet, Hot Summer, Emma St. Clair
More Natalie!
Natalie is just weeks away from her summer wedding to her longtime love Seth, so she should be overjoyed. Instead, the stress of planning the perfect day has her feeling more anxiety than anticipation. She and Seth can’t find a place to live (without his parents helping foot the bill) and Natalie and her mom have different tastes. She’s just ready for the whole thing to be over.
Natalie finds herself wondering if she has a simple case of cold feet or if she’s about to choose the wrong man.
The Random Series, Julia Kent(Explicit) *If you are offended by coarse language & graphic details, this is not the series for you.*
From unconventional love to second-chance romance to your wildest desires, The Random Series Boxed Set will have you giggling, swooning, and fanning yourself to the heart-pounding beat of the sexiest, most daring and irresistible musicians to come out of Boston.
The Monster in the Closet & Other Stories, K. Kris Loomis
Between the pages of this short fiction collection, you will find internet daters, shy bus drivers, talking corpses, playground bullies, and monsters in the closet. Spies, old friends, unhappy teens, grieving sisters, overworked businessmen, and novice chess players bare their struggles and triumphs in local parks, cafes, funeral homes, bus stops, even their bedrooms.
These poignant, often humorous, contemporary short stories remind us how important human connections are in this crazy, yet beautiful world.
Fifteen stories in all!
The Bookseller, Cynthia Swanson
A provocative and hauntingly powerful debut novel reminiscent of Sliding Doors, The Bookseller follows a woman in the 1960s who must reconcile her reality with the tantalizing alternate world of her dreams. Nothing is as permanent as it appears . . .
This is a great novel. It kept me guessing until the very end.
Rhys: The Ghosts of Culloden Moor #42, L.L. Muir
RHYS was never supposed to die on the moor that day, and if the witch is offering him new life, he plans to take it–and run! He doesn’t care about the boon he could earn. All he wants is vindication and a long life. And if it means he’ll have to outrun and outwit a witch, he’ll do it!
(FANS PLEASE NOTE: This is an important episode for Soni and Simon)
Before I Knew (The Cabots Book 1), Jamie Beck
On the second anniversary of her husband’s suicide, Colby Cabot-Baxter is ready to let go of her grief and the mistakes made during her turbulent marriage. Her fresh start comes in the form of A CertainTea, the restaurant she’s set to open along Lake Sandy, Oregon, with help from her family. But when her executive chef quits just weeks before the grand opening, Colby is pressured to hire old family friend Alec Morgan. His award-winning reputation could generate buzz, but their friendship has withered since her husband’s reckless dare cost Alec’s brother his life.
All We Knew ( The Cabots Book 2), Jamie Beck
Hunter Cabot deeply loves two things: the international tea company he’s helped his father build, and his wife, Sara. From the moment he first saw her wide smile on their college campus years ago, Hunter fell hard. Yet now, with other family members pushing to sell the thriving business and Sara grieving their failure to start a family, he’s suddenly facing the crushing loss of both.
Man Candy (After We Fall Book 1 ), Melanie Harlow
He’s back.
Not just back in town, but living in the flat right beneath mine. And he looks good enough to eat, which is just one more reason to stay away from him
But I can’t resist.
The sex is incredible (pretty sure we’ve shaken the house right off its foundation), but he can’t fool me—not this time. A degree in marketing and five years in advertising have taught me that “true love” is a fairy tale used to sell lipstick, diamonds, and perfume. It doesn’t exist.
The Last Good Day, Robert Kugler
Eighteen-year-old Avery is a talented musician leaving home to study at the Boston Conservatory of Music to take his shot at success and glory.
Before he boards the 8 AM Northeast Connector out of Princeton Junction, he has one last day at the Jersey Shore with Angela, his best friend since the first day of ninth grade at Windsor High School.
The choice he faces as he stands on the beach, include the chance that he could lose either his one shot at success in music, or Angela, the only stable thing in his life, and perhaps far more than that now, put Avery at a crossroads and force him to reconsider who he is, who he wants to be, and more immediately, what is he doing to do now?
The Underground Toy Society’s Song Book, Jessica D. Adams
The Underground Toy Society shares their theme song, oath, and poem in a short introduction of who they are and how they help toys and kids.
This is a very short book to introduce the concept of The Underground Toy Society to help kids learn to love and appreciate what they have. The goal is to help kids want to keep their rooms clean and to take care of their toys and belongings.
Night Night Dino Snores, Nicola Edwards
Snuggle up with Sleepy Stegosaurus and his dinosaur friends for a gentle bedtime read with rhyming text, a variety of touch-and-feel textures, and charming illustrations.
All hail King Baby! He greets his adoring public with giggles and wiggles and coos, posing for photos and allowing hugs and kisses. But this royal ruler also has many demands, and when his subjects can’t quite keep up, King Baby takes matters into his own tiny hands. This is a fabulous book. It’s a favorite of my grandson Xander.
