This is the story of my younger brother, Dr. Manu Dua, who battled oral cancer for almost two years.

These are a series of blogs that he penned when faced with his own mortality at the young age of 34. He had accepted and made peace with his fate. These blogs are filled with much depth and wisdom. It chronicles his realization of life and what and who truly matters.

May these blogs serve as a gentle reminder to not take life for granted. That no matter what we plan, things are out of our control, call it our fate or destiny. That through the darkest of times, there is still hope, and the power of the human spirit through adversities prevails.

May you find comfort in his words should you or your loved ones walk this difficult road.
-Dr. Parul Dua Makkar

My Thoughts on Life Interrupted

This short, 94-page memoir is one of the most touching I’ve read. It’s a series of blogs written by Dr. Manu Dua as he was going through multiple cancer treatments. He and his sister planned to publish them as a book. Unfortunately, Manu passed before they achieved this goal. His sister, Dr. Parul Dua Makkar, fulfilled the dream by publishing this book after his passing.

Dr. Manu’s words are profound, touching, and brutally honest. He could have focused on the constant struggles, pain, and death, but instead, he has provided a road map of inspiring words to help the reader assess their life and goals and, if the need arises, deal with the harshest of circumstances.

I could have used this book many, many years ago when I lost my brother in an accident. I spent about ten years railing at fate for taking him too soon. Over the next ten years, I reconciled myself to the loss. In recent years, I can finally look back and remember the happy times without dissolving into tears. After reading this memoir, I came to understand that pain is only part of being a survivor. Honoring their memory to the best of our ability is genuinely all we can do.

Life Interrupted is well-written and envelopes the reader in a blanket of peace. I will turn to this beautiful book many times in the future when I need solace and hope.

I received a copy of the book for the tour. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.

Navigating the Heartache of Sibling Loss: A Journey Toward Healing

Losing a sibling is a profound and deeply personal tragedy. It’s a loss that reverberates through every aspect of life, altering the landscape of our families and how we see the world. The bond between siblings is unique and irreplaceable. It’s a relationship built on shared memories, private jokes, and the unspoken understanding that comes from years of growing up together.

When this bond is severed by loss, the pain can feel insurmountable. However, amidst the heartache, there is a path toward healing, and it often begins with acknowledging our grief and allowing ourselves to feel the full breadth of our emotions. In the wake of sibling loss, it’s essential to remember that grief has no timeline. Everyone’s journey is personal, and there’s no right or wrong way to navigate this process. Some may find solace in solitude, while others seek comfort in community. It’s important to honor your feelings and needs during this time, whether that means taking a step back from your usual routines or finding refuge in the structure and normalcy they provide.

Yet, healing is not just about managing the immediate aftermath; it’s also about finding ways to honor our lost siblings and keep their memory alive. This can take many forms, from participating in activities they loved to dedicating fitness goals or events in their name. These acts of remembrance can serve as a source of comfort and a way to celebrate their life, even in their absence.

Ultimately, navigating the heartache of sibling loss is a journey that reshapes us in profound ways. It teaches us about the depths of love and the strength of the human spirit. As we move forward, it’s crucial to reach out for support when needed, whether through friends, family, or professional help. Remember, you are not alone in this journey, and there is hope for healing even in the midst of grief.

In closing, to those walking this path of loss, may you find strength, comfort, and peace in the days ahead. Let us hold onto the love we have for our siblings, allowing it to guide us toward healing and help us build a legacy of love that endures beyond their physical presence.
