Excerpt from Limelight

The voice had the abnormal deepness of someone using a voice changer.

Chris was momentarily chilled by the malicious sound of the voice, but that quickly changed into outrage. “Excuse me? Who’s this?”

Out of his periphery, he felt Andrea glancing from her cell to him, mild concern disturbing her cool effect.

“Don’t worry about that,” the voice said. There was a patience and a dark confidence to the voice that Chris didn’t like. It was like the voice was in control, not Chris. “I know what you did,” the voice said. “Five years ago.”

That was when Chris truly felt out of control for the first time since his addiction years. He was lost for words. An icy chill ran down his back. This voice-whoever it was-was claiming to know things no one should know.

“Who are you?” Chris asked yet again, trying to keep his cool.

The voice said, “You will confess, Chris. I promise you I’ll make you confess to what you did…”

My thoughts on Limelight

Limelight - book in hand image

Joshua Crossen’s debut novel, “Limelight,” is a captivating and thrilling read that delves into the darker side of fame and obsession. About Joshua Crosson

Joshua Crosson author image

Joshua Crosson lives in a small town in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. He attended college in his early twenties, wasn’t sure what he wanted to study, dropped out, and is now returning—this time to get a nursing degree. He has a passion for helping others in need and has always believed good writing has the power to connect and help other people. He’s loved writing ever since he was a small boy. While writing can sometimes be a challenge, his passion for it has never died. He’s heard other writers use the term “writing as therapy” and believes the expression is a good fit for him too.

He loves a good crime story, is a sucker for anything Daniel Woodrell, Stephen King, Silent Hill (video game series), Life is Strange (also a video game series), and Andre Dubus III. He’s also fond of the TV shows Breaking Bad, True Detective, and can’t resist a good Forensic Files episode.

He prefers stories, including his own, a little more on the dark side and has a particular fascination with antiheroes. He loves to explore and write deeply flawed characters.

When he isn’t reading or writing, he’s working as a CNA at an assisted living facility, visiting with his parents at his childhood home, playing video games and watching movies with his brother and sister, drinking too much coffee, learning Portuguese, or spending quality time with his fiancé.
