"The Girl of Many Crowns" is the true and inspiring story of Judith, the first princess of France, who is a pawn in a complex political game of chess as her father, King Charles, tries to hold on to his kingdom. King Charles, grandson of Emperor Charlemagne, is beset on every side by Vikings, rebel lords, and greedy neighboring monarchs. He marries 12-year-old Judith to Aethelwulf, the aging King of Wessex, for political advantage. When she is widowed less than two years later, he arranges a second marriage for her. But, when Judith refuses to marry a third time at her father's command, King Charles imprisons her in one of his palaces.
Baldwin Iron Arm is a powerful knight from Flanders who pledges loyalty to King Charles and his family. As the companion of Judith's brother, Louis, he fulfills his oath by protecting King Charles' family from Vikings, rebel lords, wars, and assassination plots. He is conflicted when he must choose between obeying the king and rescuing his daughter Judith from her imprisonment.

Authors on iTours Interview:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
An Interview with D.H. Morris, author of The Girl of Many Crowns
Question #1: How did you discover the story behind this book?
Answer: I discovered the story while doing genealogy. The presence of this young princess/queen three times on my genealogy chart looked like an improbable error. In trying to correct what I thought was an error in my genealogy, I discovered an amazing story of adventure, courage, love, and faith that is inspiring in its testimony to a young queen's resilience and self-determination. I used the time during COVID to complete the research and write her story.
Question #2: Have you collaborated with any organizations or events to promote the book?
Answer: I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with several organizations to promote The Girl of Many Crowns. A highlight was a successful author signing event at Barnes & Noble, where I joined other local authors in connecting with readers and sharing my work.
I’ve also partnered with OUR Rescue, donating a percentage of proceeds to support their mission of rescuing children from human trafficking. This organization works both locally and globally to combat trafficking and provide care for survivors. It’s an honor to combine my storytelling with their vital work and support such an important cause.
Question #3: Who do you see as your ideal reader for The Girl of Many Crowns?
Answer: "The Girl of Many Crowns" is an epic historical adventure for readers of all ages, blending the intrigue of "The Crown" with the drama of "Game of Thrones." With no graphic content, it's suitable for a wide audience, including my grandchildren. The story follows both Princess Judith and the powerful knight Baldwin, whose parallel journeys converge in an unforgettable tale. The book has received numerous 5-star reviews, with female readers connecting deeply with Judith's challenges, while male readers often see Baldwin's adventure as the central story. It’s perfect for book clubs or as a gift for any reader, male or female.
Question #4: What themes do you hope readers will take away from reading The Girl of Many Crowns?
Answer: I hope readers are inspired by Judith's courage and Baldwin's loyalty, finding the bravery to embark on their own adventures. The story encourages standing up for oneself, taking control of one's destiny, and navigating a chaotic world with integrity. Ultimately, I want readers to be motivated to write their own inspiring stories—proving that everyone has the potential to be the hero of their own journey.
Question #5: Do you have any other books planned?
Answer: Many readers have asked for a sequel, but unfortunately, 9th-century histories, mostly written by monks, rarely mention women unless they did something extraordinary—like Judith. They essentially stop where "The Girl of Many Crowns" ends. However, I've begun working on a prequel that will tell the remarkable story of Judith's grandmother, also named Judith. Her journey to become queen and empress has a striking Cinderella-like quality, and I can't help but wonder if her story was the true inspiration for the fairytale. Once she ascends the throne, though, her world becomes a political battleground, where she must fight to protect herself and her children.
Question #6: What’s the best way for readers to support you and your work?
Answer: The best way for readers to support me and my work is by sharing The Girl of Many Crowns with others. Word-of-mouth recommendations are incredibly powerful, so telling friends, family, or fellow book lovers about the story helps spread the word. Leaving reviews on platforms like Amazon, Goodreads, and social media also goes a long way in bringing visibility to the book.
I also appreciate readers who attend events, like author signings or book clubs, where we can connect in person. I’ve participated in local author signings at Barnes & Noble, as well as partnered with organizations like OUR Rescue to raise awareness for important causes. Every effort to share the story—whether through a simple mention or a thoughtful review—helps grow the community around the book and allows me to continue writing and connecting with readers. Please feel free to email us at [email protected] if you have any suggestions or want to collaborate.
Question #7: Was there a scene or chapter you rewrote multiple times, and why was it so difficult to get just right?
Answer: The beginning of the book was the hardest for me to write. I wanted to start the story with Judith, but Baldwin just kept inserting himself. The story refused to come together until I had Baldwin arrive at the palace and set the stage for his meeting with Judith.
