The venue is set, invitations sent, and the flowers ordered. It’s almost time for Fiona and Nathan to get married…again. What could possibly go wrong? Nothing…well, until the wedding planner is found dead.

Then the woman Fiona has never met shows up--Nathan’s enigmatic mom, Rita Landry. And she’s wearing a gorgeous but mysterious necklace. Worse, Rita is being followed by two sinister-looking men, forcing her to flee the country. Who gets dragged along? None other than the bride-to-be!

How does a girl prepare for all of that? Looks like Fiona’s perfectly planned matrimony has morphed into mayhem and murder!

You’re formally invited to Fiona and Nathan’s wedding. Question is: Will the wedding happen?

My thoughts on  Matrimony, Mayhem, and Murder

Matrimony Mayhem Murder book cover image

The Quick Review:

Today I’m featuring another Fiona Quinn Mystery. If you thought you knew wedding troubles, I doubt they can compare to poor Fiona’s fiasco. An enigmatic mother-in-law, a mysterious necklace, fleeing the country pursued by sinister shady characters are just the beginning. Fiona never disappoints when it comes to madcap adventures.

The Plot:

C.S. McDonald knows how to weave a mystery. There is more intrigue in the first few pages than in most full novels. I don’t do spoilers in my reviews but we have a wedding that is redundant, a missing necklace belonging to the Queen of England, spies galore, and our intrepid amateur sleuth, Fiona up to her eyeballs in all of it.

The Pace:

As you might guess, the pace of this mystery is nonstop madcap chaos. That said, it isn’t difficult to keep everyone straight while reading. No note-taking is required.

The Characters:

Fiona Quinn is the star of the tale. However, her husband’s (to-be) mother Rita Landry is a close second. You are never quite sure what to believe when it comes to her wild antics. She could be anything from an exclusive dancer of the seven-veils to a triple agent up to no good. Nancy doesn’t let anything get in the way of protecting her children., Fiona and Chad. Nathan, Fiona’s significant other, is his usual overworked detective self, trying to stay ahead of the females in his life as well as the criminals. It’s a harrowing job, hence his addiction to mini Snickers bars. If you are looking for rogues, bit-players, and red herring characters, this story has plenty.

In Conclusion:

I highly recommend Matrimony, Mayhem, and Murder to all lovers of cozy mysteries. It’s over-the-top-fun and a very fast read. I always recommend reading a series in the order it was written. However, I didn’t follow my own rules for this book. I haven’t yet read several of the earlier books. I had no trouble following along. So, don’t let the fact that this is book ten sway you. Reading this one is a very enjoyable way to spend an evening.

I received a copy of the book for the tour. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.

About C.S. McDonald

CS McDonald Author Profile image

For twenty-six years, C.S. McDonald’s life whirled around a song and a dance. Classically trained at Pittsburgh Ballet Theater School, The Pittsburgh Dance Alloy, and many others, she became a professional dancer and choreographer. During that time, she choreographed many musicals and an opera for the Pittsburgh Savoyards.

In 2011 she retired from her dance career to write. Under her real name, Cindy McDonald, she writes murder-suspense and romantic suspense novels.

In 2014 she added the pen name, C.S. McDonald, to write children’s books for her grandchildren. In 2016 she added the Fiona Quinn Mysteries to that expansion. She decided to write the cozy mystery series that everyone, including teens and tweens, can read and enjoy. Presently, the Fiona Quinn Mysteries nine books with a tenth slated for 2021. The books are also available on audio, narrated by Maren Swenson Waxenberg.

Cindy’s newest venture is The Owl’s Nest Mysteries. Once again, she has set her cozy mystery in Pittsburgh. The female protagonist, Alexa Owl, is much different from Fiona Quinn. The Owl’s Nest Mysteries has a little grit, a little time travel, a little romance, and a whole lot of cozy!

Ms. McDonald resides on her Thoroughbred farm known as Fly by Night Stables near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with her husband, Bill, and her poorly behaved Cocker Spaniel, Allister.
