My thoughts on Meditation and Mischief
In Meditation and Mischief, the eighth installment of The Magical Mystery Bookclub series, reading isn’t just a passive activity—members are pulled into the story themselves, becoming amateur sleuths tasked with solving the mystery before they can escape and return to reality.
This time, the book transports the club to The Golden Island Wellness Retreat, a place designed for yoga, meditation, spa treatments, and soul-soothing workshops. But amidst the search for inner peace, they stumble upon something far less serene—a dead body.
The retreat also happens to be hosting a ten-year reunion for a group of acting college graduates, bringing together old friends…and old enemies. Now, the club must dig through layers of personal baggage to figure out who’s harboring a deadly grudge.
I’ve been a fan of this series from the start, and I have to say, each book just keeps getting better. That’s no small feat, so hats off to the author for continuously raising the bar! There are frequent references to earlier books in the series. If this is your first Magical Mystery Book Club adventure, the premise of the club and the rules are spelled out nicely for you. I bet when you finish reading this book, you’ll be clamoring to read the earlier books in the series. It’s that fun!
As always, the dialogue is sharp and witty, the pacing quick but perfectly balanced, and the mystery itself packed with twists and turns—including plenty of red herrings (which always makes me think of ever-hungry Frank!).
If you’re into light-hearted mysteries with a magical twist, this one’s a must-read.
