Quick Summary:

In My Bully, My Aunt, & Her Final Gift, Harold Phifer revisits his turbulent childhood under the rule of a domineering aunt who blended twisted wisdom with biting cruelty. Part memoir, part emotional exorcism, this darkly funny and brutally honest account explores how one woman’s harsh presence haunted his early years—and how her death, oddly enough, became the first step toward healing. With unflinching candor and unexpected humor, Phifer turns trauma into storytelling gold in this unforgettable look at survival, family, and the strange gifts we inherit from those who hurt us most.

In "My Bully, My Aunt, and Her Final Gift", Harold Phifer revisits the complicated relationship he shared with his late Aunt Kathy, a woman who stood as the antithesis of positivity in his life. Despite her domineering and often cruel behavior, her passing left Harold with an unexpected opportunity for humor, healing, and reflection.

As he plans her memorial—a gathering that no one seems eager to attend—Harold's childhood memories resurface, pulling him back into a world shaped by his aunt's unpredictable rules and twisted philosophies.

Blending heartfelt truths with laugh-out-loud moments, Harold weaves a tale of resilience, self-discovery, and ultimately, redemption.

This memoir offers a lighthearted yet honest look at how even the darkest relationships can leave behind gifts of wisdom and self-awareness.

🎤 Guest Post from Harold Phifer

Today, I’m excited to welcome author Harold Phifer to the blog for a guest post that’s anything but ordinary. While we’re spotlighting his memoir My Bully, My Aunt, & Her Final Gift on this tour, Harold’s also giving us a no-holds-barred sneak peek at his newest release, A Fool Indeed—a wild, irreverent ride full of revenge, chaos, and unforgettable characters. Buckle up… this one’s got everything from baby oil to Dog Sugar.

📘 Can you tell us about your most recent release, A Fool Indeed?
Charlie Mo is the only guy who can turn a dream into a nightmare. Here’s a guy that has life by the tail with all the stars aligned. Yet, he chooses to chase after revenge and a loved one who got away.

🎬 What was your favorite scene to create?
The Tail-End strip club scene. Nonetheless, security stayed on top of me and pinned my face down to the floor amongst the dollar bills, cigarette buds, chicken wings, spilled beer, baby oil, discarded panties, splattered jism, and used condoms.

This was an awkward and unique position to watch a female revue. I wouldn’t suggest that vantage for obvious reasons.

As I looked up, the infamous Dog Sugar was calling the shots while giving support to Tin Can. I knew a rat when I saw one, but now I had mice to deal with.

🐍 Who is your favorite character in this book, and why?
Actually, the crooked and infamous “Dog Sugar.” He was crooked and evil in so many ways. I don’t think his mother would have loved him!

🪙 Why did you decide to write the series, The Fool's Gold Chronicles?
I wanted to give readers something that would arouse, titillate, and amuse them. I definitely wanted to put my weird and humorous spin on love and relationships.

About Harold Phifer

Harold Phifer was born in the rebellious South of Columbus, Mississippi. As a kid, he worked the streets, hustled the neighbors, and bused tables at bars he didn’t belong in.

After graduating from Caldwell High School, he went on to earn degrees from Mississippi State and Jackson State Universities.

He became an Air Traffic Controller in Memphis, Tennessee, but after 23 years, he sought purpose elsewhere—working as an international contractor alongside soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

After narrowly escaping the Taliban takeover in 2021, he took refuge at Guantanamo Bay and resumed his writing while continuing his work as a controller.

In 2024, he returned to the Middle East, where he continues to write about life, love, and the human spirit.
