Excerpt from The Mystery at Love’s Manor
While we waited for our food, Sam started the same game we enjoyed together years ago.
“What about the lady with the blue windbreaker, Emma?”
“Hmm, let’s see. She’s a practical woman judging by the windbreaker over the dress clothes she has on under it. It is a brisk day today. I think she is having marital problems or thinks her husband is cheating. She keeps twisting her wedding band around her finger. She may be plotting an indiscretion of her own by the way she keeps looking nervously over her shoulder at the entrance. She’s expecting someone she probably shouldn’t be seen with. That’s why she picked the shadowed booth in the corner.”
“Not to mention the sunglasses worn inside?”
“Exactly. How about that guy across from us with the pin-striped suit?” I whispered.
“Despite the cheater’s ring around his finger, I don’t think he’s cheating, but the lady with him isn’t his wife. I’d say a first or second date after his divorce, perhaps. Wearing a suit, even a threadbare one, in a very casual restaurant, he’s trying to impress her, and she’s laughing too heartily at his jokes. She’s nervous as well. I’d bet she’s been on too many crappy dates since her divorce. They’re both trying too hard.”
We both laughed when a man entered with dark glasses, ducked his head, and made his way to the first lady’s booth.
It was a good lunch. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as sharing a meal with a good friend.

My Thoughts on The Mystery at Love’s Manor
The Mystery at Love’s Manor by D.W. Thompson is a delightful dive into intrigue and romance set against the backdrop of an atmospheric estate full of secrets.
Thompson crafts a narrative where every character seems to have something to hide, and the twists keep you guessing. The pacing is brisk, and the interplay of mystery and budding relationships adds layers to the story. While the resolution might feel a touch predictable for seasoned mystery readers, the journey through Love’s Manor makes it worth the read.
Perfect for cozy evenings, this book delivers both suspense and charm in equal measure.
I received a copy of the book for the tour. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.

How To Beat Writers’ Block
Although I’ve seldom been cursed with this ailment, anyone who takes pen in hand (or fingers to keyboard) knows the fear of this blank page malady. We’ve all experienced it—generally when we are on a deadline, self-imposed or otherwise.
Conventional wisdom, which works for me in this case, is to write and then write some more! Anything…just write. Hung up on a scene or dialog that won’t flow no matter how often you rephrase? Step away from the scene and do some scribbling on what you see happening in the next chapter. Not helping? Write a side note describing your main character’s favorite food or a scene from her childhood. But don’t stop. Keep the creative juices flowing.
Sometimes, changing up your methods helps. If you use a computer or typewriter, write a scene in longhand. A change of location can inspire. Where do you feel most creative and productive?
Read. Then, read some more. Get out of your head for a while. Someone once said that reading is inhaling and writing is exhaling. Two sides of the same coin, and one spurs on the other.
A non-writing break works for some folks. A jaunt in the woods often does the trick. Hoeing weeds out of your garden can help clear the cobwebs as well. If your back holds out, picking a half bushel of green beans will do the job!
Setting realistic writing goals also helps. If the above fails, write a few paragraphs using ”stream of consciousness.”
Try these methods the next time your mind and pen betray you. I think they’ll improve your writing health. Best of luck!
