My thoughts on Nurse Mommy
Children simply don’t understand why parents have to leave to go to work. This story helps explain that in a way that should make sense to them.
It’s comforting to know that their child can read (or be read) this cute picture book while the parent is away at work.
I can see this story being read to little ones at daycare and with babysitters, too. They often have the same feelings when a parent is gone to work during the day.
Kudos to the author for recognizing the need for this story and to Vanessa Alexandre for her bright and vibrant illustrations.
I received a copy of the book for the tour. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.

Author Interview
Where did you get the inspiration for this story?
The inspiration for this story comes from all of my coworkers and friends who have children that get upset when they leave for work. I had the idea to write it myself because I wanted to find a book like this for my husband to read to our son. I couldn’t find anything specific to night shift nurses so I decided to try and do it myself!
What is your next project?
I’m not sure! I have one idea I’ve been toying with and if I can write another story I think that other children would benefit from, I would absolutely try to get it published!
Do you have another profession besides writing?
I have been a nurse for almost seven years. I started my career in the Pediatric ICU and for the last 4 years, I have been working on postpartum units with moms and babies.
Do you have any other hobbies you like to do in your spare time?
I do love reading, but it’s definitely hard to find time for that these days. Our son is almost two and we just added a little girl to the family in April! I love being active with them outside and reading them stories. One day I hope to be able to read as much as I would like to again!
Do you have a favorite author?
When I have the time to read, I enjoy Jodi Picoult. I love that her stories focus on ethical dilemmas, but she writes the stories from many characters’ points of view. I think it makes you, as the reader, empathize with people whose views are different than your own and really shows how there aren’t always clear right or wrong answers to problems in life.
