My thoughts on Our Lunar New Year

Our Lunar New Year: Celebrating Lunar New Year in Asian Communities book cover image

My grandsons and I love this book. It’s a fabulous way to start teaching the next generation about the different traditions of celebrating the Lunar New Year.

The illustrations portray a slice of life for each of the five families. Since three illustrators worked on the book, you can point out the differences in style. Some stories are bright and colorful, while others are muted and put off a serious vibe.

Learning opportunities abound throughout the story. The length of the chapters is appropriate to the age the book is intended for. It’s a great starting point for more discussions about other countries and their culture.

I recommend this book to all families with young children and libraries.

I received a copy of the book for the tour. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.

About Yobe Qiu

Yobe Qiu Author Profile image

Yobe Qiu is an educator, entrepreneur, and mom who lives in NYC. As an educator, she focused on teaching families to embrace love, diversity, and different cultures.

Through the years working in the classrooms and closely with other educators, she noticed the lack of multi-cultural resources that represented children of color. That is when Yobe decided to create multicultural children stories that feature Asian children, families, and cultures!

Yobe loves spending time with her daughter, reading to children, and taking long walks during the day
