I am always looking for new recipes to try with fresh cabbages from our garden. This Oven Roasted Cabbage Steaks recipe is perfect. We usually have it as a side dish but it would certainly work as a vegetarian main dish. It is perfect in the oven or on the grill. I served it with my BBQ Meatballs and it was simple yet delicious.

Oven Roasted Cabbage Steaks

  • One head of Cabbage
  • 2 TBS light extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 TBS Minced Garlic
  • Salt & Pepper to taste
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F

  2. Line large casserole dish, sheet cake pan with aluminum foil or use a large disposable  aluminum foil pan

  3. On a cutting board, cut bottom off cabbage so it stands upright

  4. Slice cabbage into 1 inch slices
  5. Arrange in a single layer in the pan or dish
  6. Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with garlic, & seasonings

  7. Cover with foil

  8. Bake for approximately 50 minutes or until core is easily pierced with a fork

  9. If desired, uncover & return to oven  for a few minutes to let tops get a bit crispy

  10. Serve with your favorite meat dish or use the cabbage steaks as your main course.

  • You can add lots of different seasoning to change the recipe to suit your tastes. Crushed red pepper is a favorite.
  • This dish is excellent prepared on the grill. I use the disposable pan when cooking on the grill for ease.
