A profoundly intimate memoir, Rebirth of a Sage delivers a tale of spiritual self-discovery, catalyzed by love and driven by light.
From a fascinating account of her initial encounter with ayahuasca to a mystical cleansing of her entire life, author Lani Gonzales takes readers on an ethereal journey that began in the forests of Colombia.
In this captivating self-help debut, Gonzales introduces readers to her former self. Caged by the traumas of her past, hurt by people who were supposed to nurture her, and drenched with fears of uncertainty and self-loathing, Gonzales struggled to reignite her spiritual flame and reconnect with Pachamama - Mother Earth.
Through ayahuasca, she commenced a ceremonial cleanse with expert guidance from the Shamans of the Andes, releasing the panic and agony that personified her old self and gradually reconnecting with nature. Disembodied and hungry for healing, her spirit wandered until she found what awaited her.
Delving deep into her transcendence, Gonzales invites readers as she relives the ceremonies that purged her darkest demons, rebirthed her spirit, realigned her soul, and transformed her life.
Through eleven introspective chapters enriched with healing, readers learn to unbury their afflictions, abandon their old ways, and welcome a life of purpose and meaning.
Chronicling Gonzales' journey in a heartwarming and soul-searching tell-all, Rebirth of a Sage, is an intensely personal story of spiritual reckoning.
Traverse a kaleidoscope of emotions and be inspired with a mystical reconnection of spirit and a divine reignition of soul!

Excerpt from Rebirth of a Sage
I will not carry the weight of your sin.
It is yours to carry, and not my own.
When my innocent eyes looked to you,
You took your life, and I slowly lost my own.
But that is your sin to carry, and your sin alone.
I will not carry the weight of your sin.
It is yours to carry, and not my own.
You taught me that life was worthless,
Something that easily comes and goes.
But that is your sin to carry, and your sin alone.
You trespassed on my innocence, the pureness of my soul.
But that is your sin to carry, and your sin alone.
I will not carry the weight of your sin.
It is yours to carry, and not my own.
You told me to be silent. You told me to be still.
But something inside me rotted; something inside me grew cold.
But that is your sin to carry, and your sin alone.
I will not carry the weight of your sin.
It is yours to carry, and not my own.
You violated my body, using it for the needs of your own.
But that is your sin to carry, and your sin alone.
I will not carry the weight of your sin.
It is yours to carry, and not my own.
The weight I’ve tried to shed.
The weight I’ve tried to purge.
Deceived into believing it should be shed from my body, the vessel for my soul.
But the weight that should be lost is that of your original sin, your sin, and yours alone.
I will not carry the weight of your sin.
It is not mine to carry.
It is yours and yours alone.

Guest Post from the Author
Everyone who knew me well told me that I should write a book. My counselor found my life story inspiring, and she would joke that she would one day read my story in a book. Friends interested in my solo travels around the world encouraged me to write. My best friend even had dreams of me writing a book. I never took it seriously. I didn’t believe I had any knowledge or wisdom worthy of memorializing in a book.
After experiencing a spiritual awakening and healing of past traumas through ayahuasca, I was finally inspired to share my story. I didn’t want to write about my picture-perfect travels. I didn’t want to write about how I transformed from a poor, illegal immigrant to an American citizen and successful lawyer at the age of 23. I wanted to write the truth: the deepest and darkest parts of my life. I wanted to write about the things that we don’t talk about in polite conversation: the things we are too afraid to say out loud for fear that it would be met with judgment and shame.
And so, I wrote my first book: Rebirth of a Sage. At the earlier stages of writing Rebirth of a Sage, I considered whether I would change the names of characters and publish my book under a pseudonym. Although I was ready to speak my truth, my story also shared family secrets that relatives were still trying to suppress. Ultimately, I decided to publish Rebirth of a Sage under my name.
The past is the past. It has already transpired and can’t be changed. It is not the past that hurts us. It is how we choose to process the past that dictates whether it will be a festering wound or serve as a stepping stone towards our evolution. I chose to allow my past to serve as a beacon of hope for others. In Rebirth of a Sage, I revealed the things that once caused me guilt and shame. Through writing Rebirth of a Sage, I finally spoke my truth and honored the little girl that I once was that suffered in silence. I hope that Rebirth of a Sage inspires readers to unbury their afflictions and use their pasts as lessons that will light the way towards enlightenment.
