Have you ever imagined, the End of Man? A world where Magic is life and Demons thrive? Have you ever imagined, if it would be a better world? I know I did, until the Red Moon. Ice fell like rain, waves eclipsed the skies and death upon death. All the while, Gods were silent.

Then Saisho jumped into the pit, and a ripple began. The First Hellbrids walked, and the ripple flourished. Ten thousand years passed, and the ripple faded away. Until the Red Moon rose again, and Chaos began, The ripple began again, and an Era began, With the world echoing again, “Those who sin, die by the way they sinned!”

Trigger warning: This series is rated R18 for adult situations, graphic violence, harem relationships, and mentions of rape.

My thoughts on Red Moon by Sein Ares | Arcana of the Crimson Era Book 1:

Red Moon is an impressive start to an epic fantasy series. The author builds a fantastic, in-depth world for his characters to play in.

Pay attention to the trigger/content warnings. They are there for a reason.

The world is the most unique I have read in a long time. Not only are the words descriptive, but there are occasional, beautifully detailed illustrations. These are particularly useful in imagining the female characters, along with their weapons and clothing.

The story itself is remarkably in-depth. The author spends time explaining the many castes, realms, and more, so I assume this knowledge will be useful in future books in this series.

I love the empathy of the female characters, as well as their strength. They do what is necessary, but still feel regret, pain, and sorrow for the consequences of their actions.

The male characters are definitely weaker in this book. But, they seemed to pick up some strength toward the end of the story.

The monstrous creatures are genuinely frightening, made more so by the details of the atrocities.

I recommend Red Moon to all lovers of epic fantasy, futuristic sagas, and action-packed fiction.

About Sein Ares

Sein Ares author Profile image

Sein Ares is the pen name of Suniel Madhu Kumar, the creator of the "Arcana of the Crimson Era" series. Red Moon is his first book.

He is 29 years old. After graduating from college, he worked in an MNC for two years. The experience he gained from there allowed Sein to apply for a more reasonable career at another private firm. This gave him both the time and income he needed to look after his family and try to write.

Largely an introvert, Sein prefers to spend time reading fiction, watching anime and gaming at home.

Author Interview:

What inspired you to write in this genre?

Well, I’ve always liked imagining fantasy worlds. I used to make up stories all the time as a child. Writing was something I took up seven years ago when I started my new job. I just wanted an outlet for my frustrations. Slowly, the outlet became my first draft. The decision to publish only came in 2017 when I was sitting alone in the office at 2:00 A.M. doing some work. My life just felt empty, and my thoughts were spiraling. I needed something more. And writing is one of the few joys I had. It was exciting to imagine publishing my work.

Do you have a set writing schedule?

I do my writing mainly on the weekend. If I’m on a deadline, I’ll use up the weekdays as well.

Do you need silence to write, or can you work in any environment?

Yes, silence is essential. But sometimes if I’m very into the story, then I might forget.

What is your favorite type of music?

Something soothing or powerful. Like Nathan Wagner’s songs or chill plays

If you could set up your perfect writing scenario, what would it involve?

Just to write without fearing about paychecks, ends meet, family members getting sick, etc. Doing it every day without worrying about the future.

How do you choose the names of your characters?

Some names are inspired by stories I told myself as a child. Others I make them up along the way or research names.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I didn’t have a goal as a kid. I thought growing up would be the best thing. But it has its challenges.

Do you have a hobby you would like to share with us?

I like gaming. I play Overwatch a lot as it relaxes me.

What do you read for pleasure?

P.G. Wodehouse is my favorite writer. Mainly because of how funny he is. Something from the old times is always fun to read.

Do you have a favorite snack or beverage while you are writing?

I like drinking tea, and any snack is fine with it.

Who has influenced your writing the most?

My influences mainly come from the comics I’ve read and cartoons and anime I’ve watched. Plus, gaming has given me more insight into how to create fantasy worlds. Books have given me the tools to write these fantasy worlds by increasing my vocabulary.

Is there anything you would like my readers to know about you and your book?

Well, the story is set 10,000 years in the future after an Ice Age comes and wipes out humanity. Now the world is ruled by a race called Hellbrids and Demons. Hellbrids are like the next-stage
evolution of humans who were brave enough to embrace Demon blood after the Gods do nothing to stop the Ice Age. It’s a Dark Fantasy 18+ with triggers of some real-world problems like rape and violence. So, if the readers aren’t comfortable with reading content like that, I would recommend giving the book a pass. But for those who can read it, ignoring the few uncomfortable parts, it is an interesting world that any lover of fantasy could and would love exploring.
