“What are you missing in your life?” I’ve put that question to successful leaders all over the world. Not surprisingly, I often hear similar answers: purpose, fulfillment, happiness, balance and the like. What I’ve found is that many of us resign ourselves to vigorously chasing classic ideals of success without realizing that it is, in fact, “significance” that we seek.

The truth is, no matter your age, position, or status, connecting your daily functions with authentic intentions and values is imperative. Otherwise, we are simply hamsters on a wheel—covering miles and miles in distance, yet never truly moving forward towards our desired destinations. Sure, there is some physical benefit from such rooted motion. But over time, it has a negative effect on matters of the heart and mind, creating a domino effect that has ongoing ramifications for our own lives and society at large.

The subtitle of this book, “Journey from Success to Significance,” was borne from my own expeditions and explorations, all of which helped me form a steadfast belief: that we are all destined, by our very nature, to be explorers— pioneers who intrinsically understand that it is the journey, and not the destination, that matters. It is the twists and turns of life that guide our principles.

Why SPARK: Journey from Success to Significance?

My book, SPARK: Journey from Success to Significance, is for those who are looking for success, blended with meaning and significance. It is for those who wish to embody the “SPARK” by having a spring in their step, a twinkle in their eye, an echo in their voice. Their hearts open, and always glowing with positive energy. As a guide, I highlight five key ingredients needed to reach this flow state, all of which are encompassed in the acronym SPARK:

S for Service – The more you serve others, the more you attract SPARK in you.

P for Purpose – Purpose creates the intention that leads to SPARK.

A for Attraction – As you aspire for Significance, the Universe conspires and creates the right circumstances and opportunities for you.

R for Resilience – You are not spared from challenges, obstacles, hurdles and failures but you have the resilience to go the distance to attract the SPARK.

K for Knowing – You have zero doubt that significance is the SPARK to your success!

The book is part story – part self help. The key principles are first introduced and illustrated through the eyes of the main protagonist, Steve Harmon, a successful corporate lawyer who is maneuvering his way through the success gauntlet. Then, after each chapter I expand on the principles so readers can take away valuable insights and tips. The story is one that many successful people will relate to, especially those who have realized their chase for outward and material success isn’t yet complete and all their t’s and i’s in fulfillment are yet to be crossed and dotted. The book will also resonate with those who are still striving for success, by helping them redefine what success really means to them.

The lessons that follow the story are focused on the 5 key principles of SPARK. The principles are modeled around the story but can also translate into the context of the reader’s own life. I have also included questions after each chapter which allow for self reflection. The primary function of the questions is to allow for an open and honest dialogue with the heart and mind. If truthfully answered they will unleash the inner SPARK. Finally, I close the book by sharing my own story, which parallels the protagonist’s narrative, and illustrates how I personally unleashed my inner SPARK.

One of my key motivators for writing this book is to inspire the best out of people. I call this the transition “going from the Present You to the Best You!”. And one of the most powerful ways to get to the ‘Best You’ is to find your purpose. A purpose that is always connected to making an impact.

Each one of us is an original, having unique traits that are unmatched – making You, truly You. No one else is, was or will be like You! You were born with a purpose and this purpose is not complete – that is why you are alive. The question is – do you know your purpose? Do you know where to find and complete your purpose? If not, when do you plan on finding it? If not now, when? If not you, who? If not here, where? What are you waiting for? More than ever, the world needs your glow in full flow.
