The 09 September 2022 Friday Finds | New Author of the Week, Book Recs, Crochet a Stuffie, Soup & Dessert
Hello, my friends & welcome to the 09 September 2022 Fun! We are still up to our eyeballs in tomatoes this week. But, the fall radishes, carrots, lettuce, turnips, and cauliflower are coming along nicely.
This weekend, my hometown of Chrisman, IL, is celebrating its sesquicentennial. Fifty years ago, I was just 14, and that centennial celebration was amazing. Admittedly, it was a much more innocent time. All the town kids ran wild, enjoying rides, parades, pageants, contests, and entertainment. The parents were all into the celebration by wearing clothing reminiscent of the 1800s, and the men grew long beards. They also buried a time capsule in the town square park.
City officials recently dug it up and opened it in preparation for the 150-year celebration. There was a bit of moisture damage, but everything will be on display this weekend. The capsule was full of letters from individuals left for their heirs. My mom left an envelope with a letter to her four children with our school pictures from that year. She also talked about our ancestors, what we were involved in, and a few more pictures and mementos. Since my mother passed away in the summer of 2018, this was a very poignant moment for my siblings and me.
My high school class is also planning a small get-together at the park for some reminiscing about our fun times in the 1970s. We usually have a reunion every five years, but since we seem to be losing a few members of our close-knit class every year now, we are going to try to meet up yearly during the Chrisman Days celebration. In 1976, we were one of the biggest classes at CHS, with 56 members.
Well, that’s enough rambling for now. I guess I am feeling more nostalgic than I thought. lol
I hope you enjoy this week’s post, and be sure you leave a comment below voting for your favorite find of the week.
Peace & Love

Friday Finds | 09 September 2022 | Books
These are a few of the books that caught my eye this week. Have you read them? Would you like to?
The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
The Silent Patient is a shocking psychological thriller of a woman’s act of violence against her husband—and of the therapist obsessed with uncovering her motive.
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.

Spooky Pookie by Sandra Boynton
Pookie gets dressed up for Halloween in this silly board book from bestselling author Sandra Boynton.
What will little Pookie decide to be for Halloween this year? Pookie tries on costumes one by one but somehow can’t find the right thing. The resolution to Pookie’s dilemma will delight toddlers and their caregivers alike. Told with Sandra Boynton’s charm and pizzazz, Spooky Pookie is a Halloween classic. Boo!
Tonight when it’s dark,
we will walk down our street.
We will visit our friends.
You can say, “Trick or Treat!”

The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen
A #1 international bestseller in the vein of Fredrik Backman’s A Man Called Ove: a funny and tender-hearted tale about friendship, love, and an old man who is young at heart.
Technically speaking, Hendrik Groen is….elderly. But at age 83 1/4, this feisty, indomitable curmudgeon has no plans to go out quietly. Bored of weak tea and potted geraniums, exasperated by the indignities of aging, Hendrik has decided to rebel – on his own terms. He begins writing an exposé: secretly recording the antics of day-to-day life in his retirement home, where he refuses to take himself or his fellow “inmates” too seriously.
With an eccentric group of friends, he founds the wickedly anarchic Old-But-Not-Dead Club, and he and his best friend, Evert, gleefully stir up trouble, enraging the home’s humorless director and turning themselves into unlikely heroes. And when a sweet and sassy widow moves in next door, he polishes his shoes, grooms what’s left of his hair, and determines to savor every ounce of joy in the time he has left, with hilarious and tender consequences.
A bestselling phenomenon that has captured imaginations around the world, The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen is inspiring, charming, and laugh-out-loud funny with a deep and poignant core: a page-turning delight for readers of any age.

What a wonderful celebration for your town and your family, Gina. Have fun at your reunion. I need to give those snickerdoodle bars a try, lots of things I love there. I read The Silent Patient back when it came out and enjoyed it. I love Sandra Boynton books and so do my grandkids, so will check that one out. Have a wonderful week.
Thanks Carla
That time capsule sounds amazing! I sure wish my mom had left something like that for my sister and me. I miss her so much!
The candy corn stuffie is adorable!
What a great post.
Guess What? I’m writing a box set and I just finished my second book. Although I’m unpublished, I love writing for fun.
So much fun! I’m class of ’76 and remember the fun bicentennial celebrations. The crochet candy corn looks doable. Love Boynton! And that book about Hendrik Groen sounds fun if my husband wasn’t the same age! 😆
