The Adventures of Faraday Fox by Travis E. Short
“With original artwork and meaningful lessons woven throughout, The Adventures of Faraday Fox is more than a story — it’s an experience.”
🌟 Welcome back, friends!
This week marks my second review stop on the Travis E. Short Multi-Book Tour with iRead Book Tours. Last week, I shared my thoughts on Anna: A Life of Faith and Courage. Today, we’re heading into middle-grade territory with The Adventures of Faraday Fox.
This illustrated adventure follows Faraday, a domesticated red fox released into the Cherokee National Forest. Instead of finding happiness, he faces danger, hunger, and loneliness, sparking a cross-country journey that brings him face-to-face with both wild and domesticated animals. His trek, filled with courage, resourcefulness, and discovery, is beautifully complemented by over twenty original paintings from artist Shirley Adams.

📝 All About the Book
The Adventures of Faraday Fox: A Story for Young Readers
By Travis Short
Published by Publish Authority on January 2024
Genres: Animals, Young Adult Fiction / Action & Adventure / General, Middle-Grade
Formats: eBook, Hardcover, Paperback
Pages: 65
"The Adventures of Faraday Fox" is an incredible journey of a brave red fox as he travels across the United States of America, from Dahlonega, Georgia, to Port Orchard, Washington. Orphaned as a baby, Faraday is domesticated by Shirley. When he is ready, he is released into the Cherokee National Forest in hopes he will find a new home with the forest animals. After a while, he decides he wants the life he knows and loves with Shirley and embarks on a quest to return home. But which way is home?
Thinking he would eventually catch a ride back to his home in Georgia, he makes his way across the U.S.A. by walking, hitching rides in the baggage compartment of a bus, the back of a McDonald's trailer truck, and in a boxcar. Along his travels to America's cities, he faces perils, makes friends, and shares stories and adventures. He finally reaches Monterey, California, where he finds Shirley on vacation with her daughter-in-law, Vissy. Now happy again, Faraday travels with his new family to Port Orchard, Washington, to live out his life with Vissy, Mike, and their granddaughter, Charlie.
This book is perfect for readers seven to twelve years old and older who will enjoy following Faraday's heartwarming and thrilling journey. Shirley Adams's beautiful interior images make this book a special treat.
If you enjoyed books like "The Cricket in Times Square" by George Selden, you will love "The Adventures of Faraday Fox."
⭐ My Review
At just 65 pages, The Adventures of Faraday Fox by Travis E. Short is proof that a story doesn’t need to be long to leave a lasting impression. This heartwarming tale is beautifully complemented by the stunning illustrations of Shirley Adams, whose artwork brings Faraday’s journey vividly to life.
Faraday’s adventures are filled with spirit and courage. He faces moments of peril alongside lighter, playful scenes, making his trek both exciting and deeply touching. What stood out most to me was the power of love woven throughout the narrative—both human and animal—and the reminder that “forever families” are sometimes the ones we find along the way, not just the ones we’re born into.
Although written for middle-grade readers, this story will resonate with readers of all ages. It’s a perfect addition to home bookshelves, school classrooms, and public libraries. A quick read, yes—but one that lingers in the heart long after you close the last page.

This sounds delightful. I always loved animal stories when I was younger and I love finding books like this that I think my niece would enjoy. The cover is so lovely as well. 🙂
