The January 26 Friday Finds are here!
Hello, my friends & welcome to the January 26 Friday Finds Fun!
I hope you enjoy this week’s post, and be sure you leave a comment below to vote for your favorite find of the week and leave your trivia question answer.
An unexpected vacation opportunity came my way. I’m heading south soon. I hope to drag myself away from the sun, sand, and water long enough to get the next Friday Finds out on time! But if it’s late…you’ll know why!
That three months of no sunlight played havoc with my mood. A few weeks away from the dreary Midwest winter should fix me right up!
Where is your favorite vacation destination?
Peace & Love
Note: I will share purchase links on all recommended items if possible. Every purchase made through my links helps support this blog.

January 26 Friday Finds Books
This is a bit of what caught my eye in books & such this week:
In 1972, when workers in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, were digging the foundations for a new development, the last thing they expected to find was a skeleton at the bottom of a well. Who the skeleton was and how it got there were two of the long-held secrets kept by the residents of Chicken Hill, the dilapidated neighborhood where immigrant Jews and African Americans lived side by side and shared ambitions and sorrows.
Chicken Hill was where Moshe and Chona Ludlow lived when Moshe integrated his theater and where Chona ran the Heaven & Earth Grocery Store. When the state came looking for a deaf boy to institutionalize him, it was Chona and Nate Timblin, the Black janitor at Moshe’s theater and the unofficial leader of the Black community on Chicken Hill, who worked together to keep the boy safe.
As these characters’ stories overlap and deepen, it becomes clear how much the people who live on the margins of white, Christian America struggle and what they must do to survive. When the truth is finally revealed about what happened on Chicken Hill and the part the town’s white establishment played in it, McBride shows us that even in dark times, it is love and community—heaven and earth—that sustain us.
Bringing his masterly storytelling skills and his deep faith in humanity to The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store, James McBride has written a novel as compassionate as Deacon King Kong and as inventive as The Good Lord Bird.

January 26 Friday Finds – Recipes
You know, many bloggers only tell you about their success stories. Here’s a quick tale about my failure today.
I read a recipe for Cool Whip Chocolate Cookies. Only a few ingredients, super quick to make, and delicious. So, I set out to make them to share in today’s newsletter. My first mistake was that I didn’t save the recipe and couldn’t remember where I had seen it. Now, a smart person would google it and be done.
Not me; I thought I had it locked in the old memory bank (highlight OLD). It’s a simple 3-ingredient cookie recipe. I’ve got this. Nope… it was a 4-ingredient recipe! I forgot the egg. But I didn’t know that until I was writing this post and had to find the recipe.
Hubs and I both tried them and thought they were decent. Cooking mistakes are always best if you can still eat the results. Someday, I will tell you the newlywed story of the cake I baked that the dog wouldn’t even eat. He buried it!
Here’s a picture of my 3-ingredient version and, of course, a picture and link to the actual recipe on Delish.com, which has wonderful video instructions for people like me!

It’s almost too late to grab your DIY Valentine’s Card kit. The deluxe edition even comes with a nice white Valentine’s card box along with the paints to decorate it. It ships from the USA, so that could be good or bad news depending on where you live.
January 26 Friday Finds – Trivia
The answer to last week’s trivia question was:
Macondo is the fictional town in Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s “One Hundred Years of Solitude.”
Congrats to Jessica A. for being the only correct answer. Since she is also a newsletter subscriber, she gets two entries for the January drawing.
Here is this week’s question for you to ponder.
What type of pasta is shaped like small rice grains and is often used in soups?
Commenters with the correct answer will be entered into the January drawing, which will be held the first week of February.
Newsletter subscribers always get an extra entry by leaving a comment on this blog post.
January 26 Friday Finds – Blog News
What are some of your favorite blogs to visit each week?
I always enjoy reading posts from fellow bloggers.
Here’s a fun and fascinating blog post from Hopewell’s Library of Life about Running a Stately Home. She compares that book to The English Gentleman series by Douglas Sutherland and the Cary Grant–Deborah Kerr classic film, The Grass is Greener.
If you missed one of my reviews in the past week, here’s an easy link to find them all. Be sure you check out the blog tour giveaways. There are some great prizes this week!
How many questions from today’s post can you answer? I would love to hear from you!
Thanks for reading this week.
Peace & Love!

That’s so awesome you get a surprise vacation! Good for you! Have a wonderful time!
I’m pretty sure the pasta is called Orzo.
Have a great week!
Those cookies look so good I’ll have to check out the recipe!
The eggless cookies are more like eating a fudge brownie dusted with powdered sugar. I’m going to wait until the grandkids are here and try it again.
Is it Orzo?
Yay Eve! You got it. Good to hear from you.
Wow! Thanks for promoting my book club kits Gina! I hope you have fun in the sun! 🏖️🏊♀️🌊🌞👙😎
I’m excited for you, Carol. It’s such a great idea.
