Excerpt from The Prayer Warrior
The mist settling over the earth was about five inches high. It nearly obscured the ground in front of her as far as her eyes could see. She was reminded of mud-covered battlefields with little to shield one from enemy fire.
The clouds hung low, making the whole scene look like something out of an apocalyptic dream. The fallow ground before her was vast. It was a wasteland, offering only the promise that nothing would ever grow there again. The desolation could have gone on forever, except for the demonic presence that lined itself up like a dirty barrier of windows used to dim and conceal what was on the other side.
She felt them, though. She felt each and every one of the children held in bondage on the other side of that transparent demonic force. The thought brought to mind a scripture, and she looked down at the writing on the sword in her hand. She could have spent time thinking about how odd it was that she didn’t remember taking a sword with her, but there were more pressing matters, and she was happy to have the weapon to wield.
She began reading the inscribed scripture out loud, her voice ringing across the barren land slick with mud. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood,”
As the words left her lips, they solidified in the atmosphere, charging toward their mark like a spear. They reached the barrier, causing it to shift and ripple but not tear.

My thoughts on The Prayer Warrior
“The Prayer Warrior” by Traci Wooden-Carlisle and D. Tina Batten is a compelling Christian Fantasy novel that explores the thin line between the natural and spiritual realms. The story revolves around Ms. V, a humble servant of the Lord, who serves as a trusted counselor at the Center of Hope Christian Academy during the day. She provides a safe-haven for students and faculty, offering professional and honest guidance infused with kindness and love that draws them closer to Jesus. However, by night, Ms. V enters the spiritual realm as one of God’s faithful prayer warriors, wielding her whispering sword to thwart the enemy’s plans and protect the hearts of those under her charge.
The book’s unique premise sets the stage for a captivating and thought-provoking narrative. The authors have skillfully created well-drawn characters and settings, immersing readers in a world where the boundaries between the natural and spiritual are blurred. Ms. V’s unwavering faith and belief are a powerful anchor for the story, making her a compelling protagonist.
“The Prayer Warrior” offers readers a journey of spiritual intrigue and profound biblical insights as they witness the consequences of each character’s life-altering decisions. This book is a must-read for those seeking a unique and faith-affirming tale that delves into the battle between good and evil in both the physical and spiritual realms.

Guest Post from the author of The Prayer Warrior
Adding to Your Arsenal Against Procrastination
I started out of the block like an award-winning marathon runner and I gave myself the pep talk on how it would be different this time and I would not wait for the experience to grow harrowing or stress-driven in those last few hours before the deadline. I told myself that the whole process would be a rarely experienced, serene, labor of love.
The first two chapters were finished well within the timeline I established for myself and I was feeling great. So great, that I ‘gifted’ myself with permission to start that new book I told myself I wouldn’t begin until I was halfway through my current project. (My muse just gave me the side-eye)
I didn’t know my weaknesses. On that piece of paper with my writing schedule, I should have given myself a warning of the detours I made in the past that took me off into Never-should-have-gone-there Land.
The best way to combat failure is to avoid the battle or know what weapons you have in your arsenal.
Weapons against Procrastination
Graph a timeline with desired finished dates. Make sure the timeline and goals are realistic, otherwise you will defeat yourself. The project, as a whole, will feel overwhelming if your goals are so far away they seem ‘out of sight’ or if they are unobtainable. With each benchmark passed you will find yourself more encouraged and hopefully more motivated to continue.
Reward yourself for the small goals you finish. DO NOT reward yourself for not meeting goals. For example. If eating that slice of chocolate or watching the movie that has been cycling on your streaming channel for a while is your reward for writing the next chapter, don’t cheat or lie to yourself.
Note: The rewards are not in lieu of the joy of writing, but the extra motivation needed sometimes to begin and other times to finish.
Avoid frustration due to lost thoughts
Get a pretty notebook that is small enough to carry around so you are never left trying to remember a wonderful thought. If you don’t have paper then use your smartphone as a useful writing implement by texting or emailing yourself the thought. If you are really pressed for time or driving, use voice-to-text to send yourself the same text or email. This will keep you from getting frustrated by thoughts that come at the least opportune moments and allow you to move forward quicker once you sit down to write. (Sorry. I am still trying to figure out how to catch thoughts that come when you’re in the shower.)
Get an accountability buddy
Have you told anyone (positive) that you are writing your book? Do you share scenes or feelings about your book with any of your (responsible) friends? If you do and your discipline is shot, then have them give you a friendly push once a week. (Teddy bears don’t count)
Hopefully, I have added to your arsenal of weapons against procrastination.
