Authors Ben and Kiyanda Young are the proud parents of an amazing set of fraternal twins, Zara and Owen. As parents, they promote individuality among their children while encouraging their twins to support and rely on one another.
The special bond between Zara and Owen is what inspired the Youngs to start Twizzler Bees Entertainment LLC with its first book, "Twin Power."
It is the first of what the Youngs hope to be a series of books highlighting the unique relationship that twins share while teaching teamwork, camaraderie, empathy, and creativity among young children ages 2 to 7.
In addition to being Zara and Owen’s parents, Ben is a gastroenterologist and Kiyanda is a surgeon, both with medical practices in Virginia.

My thoughts on Twin Power
“Twin Power” by Ben and Kiyanda Young is a delightful children’s book that earns a solid five stars. This heartwarming tale revolves around fraternal twins, Sebastian and Simone, showcasing the incredible things they can achieve through their unique ‘Twin Power.’
The narrative not only entertains but also educates young readers about the significance of teamwork, camaraderie, and the special bond shared by twins. As the first installment in the Twin Power Books series, this story lays the foundation for future adventures, making it a perfect introduction to the magical world of twinhood.
The authors, who are also proud parents of fraternal twins, bring a genuine touch to the story, drawing inspiration from their own children’s unique relationship. The inclusion of real-life experiences adds authenticity to the narrative, making it relatable for both children and parents alike.
One of the standout features of this book is its beautiful illustrations. Each page is a visual treat, capturing the essence of the story and engaging young readers throughout. The vibrant colors and attention to detail make the book visually appealing and enhance the overall reading experience.
The font choice in “Twin Power” is praiseworthy. The easy-to-read font makes it accessible for young readers, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable reading journey. The inclusion of a reading comprehension guide at the back of the book is a thoughtful touch, aiding in the cognitive development of children.
What sets this book apart is its interactive element. The series of activities provided at the end, including coloring pages, not only entertain but also encourage little readers to practice memorization skills. This added engagement enhances the educational value of the book.
The Youngs, being medical professionals, bring a unique perspective to children’s literature. Their dedication to promoting individuality while fostering mutual support and reliance shines through in “Twin Power.” This book is not just a story; it’s a valuable lesson in empathy, creativity, and the joy of shared experiences.
In conclusion, “Twin Power” is a lovely story that deserves every bit of its five-star rating. It combines a heartwarming narrative, beautiful illustrations, an easy-to-read format, and interactive elements that make it captivating for young readers. Guest Post from Ben and Kiyanda Young
How Do We Do It All?
We jokingly refer to our busy lives of being married, parenting (including juggling multiple kid extracurriculars), full-time employment as physicians, community and organization involvement, being authors, etc., as the “corporation”. The corporation can be overwhelming at times, but two skills serve us well – multi-tasking and teamwork. Both skills were honed by our careers as doctors but were perhaps tested the most when we welcomed twin infants. There’s a lot that must be accomplished when you have multiples and you just sort of find a way, somehow!
You must optimize every moment, even if it’s just to take a family nap. We took our first get-away from the kids when they were 2 (alone time is another important part of managing the corporation) and it was at that time, that we wrote the first Twin Power book. We also regularly take advantage of night hours to brainstorm, once the kids are asleep and the work tasks are done. A quick e-mail from one of us to the other in the middle of the night after a “eureka moment” or texting throughout the day, are commonplace in our home. It has happened once or twice that corporation business is happening on the sidelines of a kid’s soccer game but rest assured that we still managed to cheer when the winning goal was made.
We rely heavily on our own version of “Twin Power”, by working together as a team. Both books were illustrated by Imre Papp, an artist in Hungary and we would alternate coordinating things with him, based on whoever could best negotiate the time difference on any given day.
The spirit of teamwork has created a space for us to support each other in those times we can’t both be at the same place at the same time. Thankfully, FaceTime helps to still bring us together in those moments as well. We would be remiss in not mentioning another very important aspect of the corporation – our village. It really does take a village to raise a child and support a family and we rely on a small circle of trusted people to help keep our family going. We similarly have come to rely on a small circle within our family – sister Shashika Baldwin Mclean (marketing project manager) and cousin Tatia Gordon-Troy (editor) who helped immensely, in making our books a reality.
